This position supports the work of the Y, a leading charity committed to strengthening community. Manages the aquatics department, which includes the operation of the pool, aquatics programs, staff and budget management, youth and adult swim teams and special events. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Plan, develop, implement and evaluate a full range of aquatic programs and services, including swim instruction, all ages and abilities; youth and adult swim team programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Develops annual operating objectives and plan for the Aquatics Department. Monitor the achievement of these objectives, taking appropriate action to ensure they are met. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
- Develops, monitors and administers annual budget (income and expense) for the Department. Ensure that the department maintains a positive fiscal position.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Manages electronic time and attendance, biweekly payroll and employee records for all staff.
- Ensures staff certifications are current by conducting in-service trainings.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations. Assists in maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
- Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Implements a marketing plan and schedule as it relates to the promotion of the Aquatics Department.
- Participates and supports all CDY special events and fund raising activities, including annual membership campaign, branch fundraisers and open houses. Special projects as needed and requested.
- Serves as staff representative to the branch Program Committee, CDYMCA Aquatics P-Group and other committees, as requested.
- Ensures all Aquatic Department Operations are consistent with the Association procedures. This includes safety, insurance, incident/accident reports, purchasing, HR and Payroll procedures, accounting, and P-Group standards and maintains appropriate logs and records.
- Maintains cleanliness of the facility as a member of Clean Team and performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
BA/BS in Physical Ed., Recreation, Sports Mgt., or a related field OR equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum age of 21 years
- Experience with staff supervision; 1 year minimum.
- Experience in an aquatics program; 1 year minimum.
- Prior work experience with budget mgmt. is preferred.
- Current aquatic certifications (YMCA or American Red Cross).
- Basic knowledge of computers.
- Excellent organizational, communication and problem solving skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
