The Healthy Living Director, under the supervision of Executive Director is responsible for advancing the overall Association Healthy Living programs, to include but not limited to, Signature Programs, Group Exercise classes, Personal Training, Staff Training and Program Innovation. This position is responsible for establishing the YMCA as the leader and a pacesetter for healthy living programs, and integrating healthy living into the organization’s strategic vision and mission statement. Provides a quality experience to members and guests focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Provides leadership and direction for a variety of branch healthy living programs and services for adult population, including personal training, wellness promotion, risk reduction and supporting those with chronic diseases.
- Promotes, supports, directs and educates staff, members and community participants on the benefits of participating in key healthy living programs to maximize the health and well-being of the community, improve revenue potential and increase member retention.
- Provides personal training for a minimum 15 hours per week.
- Manages a high performing staff team through building relationships to ensure delivery of quality programs and services for all.
- Works closely with the branch management team on innovative approaches in program development and impact measurement.
- Utilize actionable information and data to continuously drive improvement and implement plans to achieve desired goals and objectives of Health & Wellness.
- On-boards, trains, develops and supervises healthy living staff.
- Ensures a high level of expertise in healthy lifestyle modules, equipment and customer service initiatives enhancing the member, guest and program participant experience and satisfaction.
- Serves as a member of the branch management team, performing specific duties which support the overall success of branch operations.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's Degree in Health Science, Recreation or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in Healthy Living Programming with adult population.
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Current YMCA Certification or National Certification required.
- Proven Management ability in budget or finance and staff management and development.
- Ability to work successfully in a highly flexible and rapidly changing work environment as well as work weekends.
- Effective written communication skills. Ability to communicate verbally with individuals and groups.
- Proficient computer skills to include MS Office Suite and other business software applications.
- Strong ability to manage programs aligning with delivery of the YMCA's mission.
- Completion of Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y, Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Member and Wellness and Foundations of Strength and Conditioning supplemental course via Learning & Career Development Center prior to start date.
- Successful completion of background screening
- Maintain the following certifications prior to start date via YMCA, American Red Cross, American Heart Association and American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI):
- First Aid/CPR /AED (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)
- Requisite Redwoods Online Training Modules (completed prior to start date and repeated annually).
Physical Demands:
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond, or special accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communication.
- Ability to walk, stoop, kneel, push, pull, climb, work in a confined space, and carry and lift a maximum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to adapt to change quickly and take responsibility for the health and safety of others.
