The Youth Programs & Group Mentoring is responsible for the oversight and ongoing development and implementation of the YMCA’s National Reach and Rise Group Mentoring program at the Aberdeen Family YMCA. The Group Mentoring portion of this position is a grant funded position.  The position is responsible for assisting with the Youth Sports program.  The position is responsible for gym scheduling and supervision of gym staff, facility rental scheduling and youth/family event planning and implementation. The essential functions will be carried out in keeping with the goals and mission of the Aberdeen Family YMCA.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Youth Sports Program:

  • Assist the Youth Sports Coordinator in the planning, development, administration, implementation and evaluation of the youth sports program. 
  • Assist in preparing and distributing coaching packets.
  • Assist in coordinating the scheduling of youth practice and games.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Youth & Family Programs and Events:

  • Plan and organize youth and family events.
  • Assist with other youth and family programs including but not inclusive to the YDC as needed.

Gym/Activity Center Coordination and Facility Rentals:

  • Responsible for the scheduling of the gym and posting weekly gym schedules.
  • Responsible for the hiring, training and supervision of gym supervisors.
  • Compile, approve and submit staff time sheets per each pay period to supervisor.
  • Responsible for facility rentals and completing necessary rental agreements.
  • Provide appropriate information regarding rentals to member services and other department staff.
  • Coordinating with various department staff and programming areas in regards to facility rentals which utilize specific programming areas.
  • Document facility rentals on the appropriate google calendar.
  • Setup rooms for rentals and meetings as needed and requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reach & Rise Group Mentoring:

  • Outreach of mentee placement in Reach and Rise program as dictated by the Y-USA national program.
  • Mentor recruiting including screening, training, supporting and monitoring of each volunteer.
  • Responsible for case management with each mentor.
  • Plan and facilitate group mentee/mentor activities.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Complies with the legal standards for mandated reporting.
  • Provide accurate, timely completion and submission of all mentor/mentee related records and documents.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments and implements the mentee growth plans, utilizing various intervention methods and techniques.
  • Works with all YMCA partners to ensure positive and consistent relationships.
  • In collaboration with the Youth Mentoring Coordinator, actively reach out and connect with schools, local businesses, universities, service organizations and other organizations to educate regarding our mentoring program and seek referrals for both mentees and mentors.
  • In collaboration with the Youth Mentoring Coordinator, routinely contact local school principals and counselors in seeking mentee referrals and mentoring needs within the community.
  • Attends regular meetings with volunteers, families, and with staff from schools and/or community based organizations as needed.
  • Provides input as to how the Reach and Rise Program Director can better reflect the cultural diversity of the children and families in Aberdeen and Brown County areas.
  • Attends all required training as required by the Y-USA and approved by supervisor and/or CEO.
  • Other duties as specified by the Reach and Rise National Director.
  • Develop, plan and facilitate fundraising events for the program.
  • Develop an approved plan for professional development.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Availability to work varied hours; days, evenings and weekends.
  • A willingness to commit to the mission of the YMCA.
  • Promote YMCA membership, programs and services.
  • Promote and incorporate the YMCA’s mission, four core values and areas of focus into all program activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, members and the general public.
  • Responds to all member and community inquires and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Responds to emergency situations in accordance with CPR, First Aid and Aberdeen Family YMCA policies and procedures.  Completes incident and accident reports as required.
  • Be involved in community activities to the benefit of the YMCA and its programs.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Positively communicate information on all YMCA programs.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Actively participates in YMCA events.
  • Work Manager on duty (MOD) shifts as assigned.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Master’s degree in social work or counseling.
  • Experience working with individuals from a variety of socioeconomic, education, Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to actively listen.
  • CPR-PR (CPR for the Professional Rescuer) Certification
  • First Aid Certification
  • Proficient use of computers with working knowledge of various software programs.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Positive, effective calm and professional communication – verbally and written –with staff, members/guests, children and parents – tailoring the communication style to the appropriate audience.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00
