The Emergency Health Advisor will serve as part-time technical advisor to select programs, including the pilot project for integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) in Emergencies and finalization of the health resiliency project in Nepal. The Advisor will support work on the emergency health and nutrition team, and will work closely with Department of Global Health (DGH) and Division of Humanitarian Response (DHR) colleagues.  This position is subject to funding availability.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Strategy, Leadership & Representation (30%) 

  • Provide health technical leadership in sub-thematic areas at global level, e.g. community-based child health approaches (e.g. iCCM in emergencies), DRR, HIV, etc.
  • Manage iCCM in Emergencies project, including engaging communities of practice; Phone interviews with EHU staff, review EHU reports from priority countries; orienting study countries on CCM-OR specifics; coordinating with TAG for consensus on research questions and protocols; reviewing and finalizing study results from study countries; seeking TAG inputs and consensus on country case studies; Co-leading the Working Group on ICCM; etc.
  • Finalize health resiliency project in Nepal, including: providing technical support for the development of simulation tools; documenting and sharing lessons-learned through dissemination of research findings at the global level; contributing to the development of high quality concept notes for continuation and expansion of funding for DRR Health Interventions; and identifying funding opportunities beyond the emergency phase.

Program Learning and Innovation (10%) 

  • Participate in the design, testing, and evaluation of innovations to advance emergency health programming with specific reference to those areas identified as Save the Children priorities
  • Inspire and actively engage in the design and implementation of robust M&E strategies and HIS in emergency health programs
  • Document and share lessons learned from specified projects
  • Participate in agency meetings and facilitate learning opportunities as delegated
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum 7-10 years of experience in Maternal, Newborn and Child Health
  • Experience in setting standards and quality assurance in clinical settings
  • Experience and knowledge in applied epidemiology
  • Working knowledge of the Sphere project and other international best practices in emergencies with understanding of broad range of humanitarian principles.
  • Proven track record of designing projects, writing proposals and generating resources with diverse donors
  • Strong interpersonal skills, enthusiastic and flexible team player
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 40% and work in insecure and hardship environments.
  • Strong Level of Technical and/ or Managerial knowledge, skills, and experience to direct the operational activities of a Unit or Team, or provide technical advice, guidance and management related to various size programs, grants or projects.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in medicine and/or public health
  • More than 5 years leading emergency health programs in the field, including rapid onset emergencies
