The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a DIRECTOR, PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL EDUCATION in our NATIONAL CENTER office located in DALLAS, TX .

The DIRECTOR, PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL EDUCATION is responsible for DEVELOPING, DIRECTING, EVALUATING and expanding the global LEARNING, TRAINING, AND DEVELOPMENT system for CARDIOVASCULAR and STROKE CURRICULUM which can be accessed live and on-line 365 days a year 24/7. Additionally, in this role you will be responsible for LEADING AND MANAGING PROGRAM staff who develop/manage live SCIENTIFIC EVENTS, MEETINGS , and the related CURRICULUM .

Areas of Responsibility: 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • DIRECTS THE CREATION and EXECUTION of quality, experiential, interactive, virtual and live learning environments FOR PROGRAMS AND PRODUCTS using the most CONTEMPORARY ADULT LEARNINGTECHNIQUES and technologies which will attract, sustain and retain life-long AHA learners.
  • CREATES AND EXECUTES STRATEGIES to maintain current and GENERATE NEW REVENUE STREAMSto support the GLOBAL LEARNING CURRICULUM .
  • Plans, launches and MONITORS BOTH SHORT AND LONG-RANGE STRATEGIES via benchmarks and outcomes that create high levels of effectiveness and efficiency and align with AHA and Office of Science Operations (OSO) strategic goals of providing the BEST CLINICAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES to professional audiences.
  • Develops and maintains systematic automated processes to allow revenue, expenses, and content assets from all learning business units to be tracked and trended for optimal business planning. Oversees and directs strong processes related to expense budget management.
  • PROMOTES KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT so that content, especially content created by AHA, is broadly disseminated and applied by users and is interconnected across other AHA assets.
  • COORDINATES AND MANAGES interdepartmental relationships across AHA and Affiliates in order to align programs and use AHA resources wisely.
  • FOSTERS RELATIONSHIPS with external stakeholders, including but not limited to scientists, Physicians/medical professionals, science volunteers, universities, technology vendors, government agencies, credentialing and accreditation groups, etc.
Educational Background: 
An Advanced Degree is required for this position (PhD, EdD, or MD).
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in HEALTHCARE/MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION and business with at least 5 years of experience hiring, managing, evaluating and motivating staff.
  • Knowledge of CARDIOVASCULAR AND STROKE EDUCATION CONTENT .
  • Demonstrated ability to apply PRINCIPLES OF ADULT EDUCATION to learning opportunities and CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT .
  • Successful track record in developing scientific and clinical learning events and products for both live and on-line participants including OVERSIGHT OF LEARNING PRODUCT life cycle and application of technology for adult learning
  • Strong background with large scale change management.
  • Must be able to travel overnight approx. 25% of the time.

  • Understanding and CLINICAL EXPERIENCE IN CARDIOVASCULAR AND STROKE SCIENCE
  • Demonstrated success in Understanding and experience with providing scalable, competency-based or other value-based learning solutions
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills appropriate to the audience
  • Experience with developing strategic plans and leading tactical operations to achieve outcomes
