Save the Children is seeking a Deputy Director for Kentucky to oversee operations, develop and steward partnerships, and deliver on strong programmatic results for children. The Deputy Director will play a key role within the Kentucky leadership team to develop and implement a long-term strategy for programmatic growth, diversified funding, and advocacy focus.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Partnership Development 20%:

  • Work in partnership with State Director and Program Specialists to manage and develop partner relationships.
  • Manage the annual Partner Planning and budget negotiation process
  • Support partners in planning, implementing; and progress monitoring
  • In partnership with the state director establish state-level, county-level and local level, partnership strategy and relationships, including with key stakeholders, funders, and programs partners in Kentucky
  • Work closely with State Director to create/implement state growth and expansion plan

Programmatic excellence: 40%

  • Ensure all programs are being delivered in a high quality manner that leads to exceeding all program monitoring goals
  • Coordinate local staff and national support to ensure timely training and technical assistance across all programs
  • Work with State Director to oversee program and operations team to make sure grant deliverables are met
  • Ensure sponsorship operations, AFU, correspondences and other expectations are met by partners
  • Meet CIMP targets in line with the state growth strategy

Operational Excellence: 40%

  • Assist State Director with development and execution management of state-level annual budget and plan
  • Oversee portfolio of subgrants to partners ensuring efficient and allowable use of funds
  • Assist State Director in tracking and distribution of GIK in a timely manner
  • Lead in preparing for and executing VIP/Donor visits
  • Coordinate with finance and operations team to ensure compliance with budget management, donor reporting, procurement procedures, etc.
  • Budget management responsibility for sub-grants including creation, revision and frequent monitoring of budget
  • Work with HR and program teams to recruit, train, and supervise high quality staff 
  • Ensure all program and operations monitoring data is being tracked/entered
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 

Required Qualifications

  • You have a minimum 5-7 years of experience the non-profit, education, or early childhood setting
  • Experience managing a complex grant portfolio
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across levels and locations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial approach for growing state-level presence and programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Comfort working with school leaders and high-level partner staff
  • Knowledge of challenges facing rural communities
  • Knowledge of Save the Children internal systems and procedures is a plus
