The Washington Senior Coordinator is responsible for supporting campaign mobilization, advocacy, and policy research to advance Save the Children Action Network (SCAN)’s campaign initiatives focused on early childhood education (ECE) in Washington and maternal, newborn, and child survival (MNCS) globally.
The Senior Coordinator will support the development and execution of strategies to advance Save the Children Action Network’s ECE initiatives in Washington state and Washington municipalities, as well as identify, cultivate, and organize SCAN’s supporters, volunteers, and student ambassadors. Under the close direction of the Washington Mobilization Manager and Government Relations Manager, the Senior Coordinator will help assess Save the Children Action Networks’ supporter base, determine key audiences and demographic segments to target, support strategies for online and offline engagement, and help meet overall state and federal campaign goals and deliverables. The Senior Coordinator will assist with research, coordination, and tracking of legislation and policy and support strategy development and execution that aligns with SCAN’s priorities and policies.
This position is a based in the Seattle, Washington metro area.
- Build and support SCAN’s advocacy structure and presence in key districts. This includes but is not limited to recruiting and maintaining: an expanded supporter base, activists, volunteers, and coalition partners. (25%)
- Research city, state, and/or federal policies and track legislative progress to keep the state’s mobilization and government relations’ team updated on political proceedings, potential opportunities and ways to best influence key state and local decision-makers. (25%)
- Help recruit and train volunteers that support outreach to elected officials through letters, phone calls, social media, and in-person meetings, letters to the editor, and blog posts. (10%)
- Work with state managers to use policy research and legislative actions to inform and develop advocacy strategies to advance policies and investments, including crafting messaging and outreach strategies. Create collateral to support campaigns. (15%)
- Support SCAN’s young leaders outreach to build an infrastructure on targeted campuses and support the outreach efforts of the high school Ambassadors (10%)
- Promote SCAN’s brand and agenda by supporting events at the local level as well as working with leadership on the ground to be visible at high-profile events throughout the region and to represent SCAN at policy and coalition meetings. (15%)
Required Qualifications (revise as needed)
- A minimum of three to four years of experience in developing and executing on-the-ground issue advocacy campaigns or policy research, with tangible evidence-based results.
- High School or Technical/Vocational Degree,
- Knowledge about developing and executing integrated online organizing, field based events, and grassroots recruitment for advocacy campaigns.
- Strong familiarity with state and /or Seattle municipal legislative process, as well as electoral processes.
