Director, Teacher Leadership Community

The shift to a member-driven model requires our organization to decentralize and move to a networked model. That means instead of a top-down approach to professional development, we strive to put our members in the driver’s seat. To do so, the Director for Teacher Leadership Community will enlist our members to advocate for change at the classroom level. This role requires a leader who has superb interpersonal skills and can motivate and rally others towards change. Individuals with grassroots organizing experience would excel in this role.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Create spaces for our teacher leaders to organize, collaborate, and advocate (30%)

  • Oversee opportunities for members to come together in order to organize and advocate around issues at the classroom level
  • Partner with the Director for Systems Leadership & Community Strategy to ensure the region has a robust alumni engagement strategy that is inclusive of veteran teachers
  • Create cohort opportunities for veteran alumni teachers
  • Partner with other teams in our region to create learning communities around the Collective Impact Microgrants

Foster a strong cohort culture among the Corps Members (30%)

  • Empower the Corps Council to problem-solve with staff members
  • Work with Corps Council to organize events that promote community building
  • Partner with The Collective Rising to ensure that the corps is an inclusive community
  • Collaborate with the rest of the Program Continuum Team to ensure Induction and Institute are meaningful community-building experiences
  • Partner with the rest of the Program Continuum Team, the Corps Council, and The Collective Rising to ensure high Strength and Learning Indexes for corps members

Lead efforts to create a member-driven cohort experience within the Launch Fellowship (30%)

  • Co-create and co-facilitate cohort conversations and leadership forums in partnership with the Launch Fellows
  • Partner with the rest of the Program Continuum Team to ensure high Strength and Learning Indexes for the Launch Fellowship

Support cross-functional work across teams (10%)

  • Participate in selection for the next cohort of corps members
  • Serve as a matriculation caller for incoming corps members
  • Other opportunities to collaborate with other regions and teams at TFA
Skills/Experience: 

Prior Experience

  • 5+ years of leadership experience within the education sector
  • 2+ years of experience working with grassroots campaigns, advocacy, and/or community engagement/organizing OR experience working within election cycles

Work Demands

  • The Director for Teacher Leadership Community will be working with teachers outside of regular school hours. This may entail some evening gatherings (e.g. coffee chats around 6pm) as well as occasional weekend events (e.g. The Corps Council meets once a month on Saturday for a couple of hours).

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to rally and organize members around causes that matter to them
  • Must be comfortable working across lines of difference in order to build broad and diverse coalitions
  • Knowledge of Denver’s education landscape and pressing issues that impact both students and teachers
  • Experience working with teachers in professional development settings
