Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a dynamic affordable housing sector/mobility from poverty expert to serve as Senior Director, Housing and Community Strategies. Reporting to the Vice President, U.S. and Canada, the Senior Director will be a member of HFHI’s team that supports the work of our more than 1,300 U.S. based Habitat for Humanity affiliates, and will be based at our administrative headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. This position requires approximately 30% domestic travel. 

The Senior Director, Housing and Community Strategies will lead the teams that currently oversee Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization and Aging in Place initiatives, evaluate new initiatives for program impact, and will work with our affiliates to design and test new models for innovation, mobility from poverty strategies, resident empowerment and improved quality of life.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead the combined work of the Neighborhood Revitalization and Aging in Place teams
  • Lead or participate as a key player in multiple cross-functional projects and grants related to affordable housing and mobility from poverty, working with staff from other HFHI teams, as well as directly with donors and affiliates, and local supporters of affiliates
  • Represent the Housing and Community Strategies department at U.S. affiliate conferences and gatherings throughout the U.S., including regular speaking and workshop facilitation responsibilities on affordable housing and mobility from poverty
  • Represent Habitat for Humanity at national and regional convenings of industry stakeholders, actively seeking speaking and panel presentation opportunities; staying current on issues and national dialog relating to affordable housing and policy issues; identifying and cultivating new strategic partnerships
  • Interact regularly with U.S. Council (affiliate leadership council), and develop, nurture and maintain relationships with affiliate leaders throughout the U.S. regarding affordable housing and mobility from poverty
  • Interact regularly with key national donors
  • Support the resource development department in the identification of new donors with interest in affordable housing and mobility from poverty strategies
  • Provide guidance, coaching, skills development planning and performance feedback on a regular basis to direct reports
Educational Background: 
Bachelors Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 10 plus years experience in the Affordable Housing Sector to include team management responsibilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Excellent team management skills and experience
  • Ability to work effectively on large, cross functional teams, whether as a leader or participant
  • A spirit of humility and servant leadership; the ability to quickly garner trust and respect from both within and outside the Habitat organization
  • A deep commitment to social justice and equity
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and supervisory skills; keen business acumen
  • Broad affordable housing sector knowledge and experience (for sale, rental and community development), with experience at the operational level. Strong working knowledge of Asset Based Community Development approaches
  • Strong working knowledge of national and regional trends and statistics relating to affordable housing and community development, as well as policy issues impacting affordable housing programs
  • Strong professional relationships with stakeholders within the affordable housing and community development sectors
  • Familiarity with current research and national dialog relating to the intersections between housing and health and educational outcomes 
  • Deep understanding of issues and national dialog relating to mobility from poverty strategies, social justice, equity and inclusion
