The Senior Writer writes for the foundation’s co-chairs and presidents, among other senior leaders, and must have demonstrated extensive experience and responsibility leading development of high-quality, high-impact content.

In this position, you will collaborate with colleagues across the foundation and with external partners on speeches, op-eds, and other content to advance the foundation’s objectives and goals in global health and development.  This may require some travel to support leadership and capture stories in the field about the foundation’s work.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversee content creation and presentation
  • Work with program stakeholders and communications colleagues to set strategy, gather information, and manage projects.
  • Oversee project development; provide project management; and coordinate project post-production activities.
  • Provide field shooting/production/writing/story gathering
  • Manage very large and complicated review cycles.
  • Provide management and editorial support
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 

Core Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent interpretive and writing skills across a range of mediums (speeches, blogs, news articles, op-eds, press releases).
  • Ability to build a trusting relationship with senior leadership and capture their voices.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to oversee complex writing/research projects and synthesize input from multiple stakeholders
  • People management/negotiation skills; ability to resolve conflicts on creative projects (speeches, videos, etc.); oversee outside writers and work with creative content partners.
  • Creative thinking: developing creative ideas for speeches, videos and other content
  • Strong storytelling skills
  • Creative problem solving.
  • Strong editorial skills - the ability to field-produce, write, direct shoots, supervise edits and post-production.
  • Ability to work under tight, pressure-filled deadlines and execute complicated project timelines to meet product needs. 
  • Ability to work with broad range of stakeholders on high-priority projects; and ability to translate leadership thoughts and objectives into word and presentations.
  • Comfort traveling independently in the developing world.
  • Experience working with global health or global development topics is preferred

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of writing experience, including at least 5 writing speeches for senior leadership in the philanthropic, government, or private sector.
  • Experience working with global health or global development topics is preferred
  • A background in science or health is helpful.
