The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER at our National Center office located in Dallas, TX. The Communications Manager will be Responsible for assisting with development, implementation and execution of media relations strategies and tactics for the American Heart Association’s Public and Media Relations Department, with a primary focus on supporting the Women’s markets’ (Go Red For Women) activations and sponsors. Responsible for collaborating with communications leads and PR agency of record to develop tools and information for promotion of AHA programs and news to consumers via national and local media outlets.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Create, implement and manage media plans for program as well as sponsor activations ensuring quality work, deadline and budget adherence; day-to-day contact for program agency of record.
  • Demonstrate tactical proficiency in media relations, including: creating and driving both traditional and social media outreach plans, bringing and growing a personal stable of media contacts, responding to media requests, fulfilling AHA field questions/requests, tracking and reporting results.
  • Collaborate with program marketing and digital counterparts to consistently delvier innovative and fresh integrated omni-channel comminciations that ladder up to multi-year strategic goals.
  • Liaise with Public & Media Relations Science News team, other Marketing Communications & Public Relations colleagues, and AHA’s Affilaite Communications Directors ensuring successful integration of content, as well as providing neccesary information to drive year-round coverage for their efforts.
  • Consistently produce high quality, bold internal and external communications content
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum five (5) years of extensive knowledge of consumer-focused public relations/media relations, marketing and advertising
  • Minimum three (3) years track record of successful placements in public relations/media relations
  • Minimum three (3) year of relationship building and media contacts
  • Strong oral communication skills, able to communicate complex ideas in succinct and clear ways to a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Keeps abreast of new and emerging trends in communications strategies and exhibits the courage to push to pilot innovative strategies to our work, yet comfortable failing fast, celebrating lessons learned and moving on
  • Strong emotional intelligence for navigating difficult relationships and conversations with internal / external stakeholders
  • Knows how / when to delegate to agency resources in offsetting workloads and managing deadlines for planning needs
  • Ability to travel 25% local and overnight stay
