ABOUT URBAN ALLIANCE & HEARTSMILES
Urban Alliance is a national nonprofit that connects high school students to equitable, inclusive careers through paid work experiences, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to help them achieve their full potential. We are nationally recognized for having 25 years of unique and valuable experience creating successful and supportive internship experiences for young adults with large and small employers across several industries in our regions--the Greater Washington, DC area, Baltimore, Chicago, and Detroit. Our programs are bridging the gap between education and the workforce by opening the doors for high school students to receive essential skills training, access career-readiness opportunities, digital literacy training, individualized mentoring, and ongoing post-high school planning support.
HeartSmiles was founded in 2015 by West Baltimore native Joni Holifield with a mission to provide exceptional enrichment and leadership development opportunities to youth in Baltimore's most disinvested neighborhoods.
The Year-Round Program combines Urban Alliance’s evidence-based career-readiness curriculum and HeartSmiles’ transformative skills-building and leadership development training to provide Baltimore City high school students with a unique and comprehensive out-of-school time program. In addition, participants have access to opportunities for career exploration and internships at alumni businesses of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program in Baltimore, which is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies.
