Position Summary:

This temporary position is being added to our growing Western States Affiliate Community Impact Team to support community heart health programs to help us achieve our health impact goals across San Mateo County. This opportunity specifically supports our Check.Change.Control. program - the American Heart Association’s evidence-based hypertension management program that utilizes blood pressure self-monitoring to empower participants to take ownership of their cardiovascular health.

Under direct supervision, this temporary position provides program coordination, administrative, logistics and clerical support to the Community Impact team. This includes supporting programs and events, recruiting and coordinating program volunteers.

Essential functions include:

  • Provides a wide variety of administrative, logistics and clerical support to staff and volunteers in accordance with AHA policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to fully understand and support assigned initiatives and programs.
  • Ensures a high quality of service is provided to all customers, staff, and volunteers.
  • Manages data related to programs and events through the use of appropriate databases.
  • Coordinates and trains community health workers to effectively deliver health-based programs.
  • Coordinates volunteer resources and logistics for assigned events, meetings and programs and provides day-of-event support as needed.
  • Performs related clerical functions such as answering the telephone, filing, typing/word processing, faxing and copying.
  • Works with AHA staff to create flyers and other collateral, as needed for events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access
  • Office administration skills, including general clerical skills (e.g., filing, typing, copying, telephone etiquette and operation)
  • Effective written communication skills, including skill in proof reading for grammar and spelling
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to maintain a professional manner in all dealings with customers, staff and others; ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to keep all work-related information confidential as necessary
  • Knowledge of AHA statistics and ability to research all AHA on-line resources for information requested by media and curious and concerned lay-people
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
