General Summary

The mission of the Alzheimer's Association is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. The Utah Chapter offers outreach and support to families throughout the state of Utah.

The Alzheimer's Association, Utah Chapter is seeking a Development Specialist to provide support and leadership for the development, oversight and execution of diversified comprehensive development plan in accordance with Association's strategic plan. Under the direction of the Utah Chapter Development Director, this position manages the chapter's mass market fundraising activities including Walk to End Alzheimer's (seven events), Reason to Hope (multiple events), and the Longest Day virtual event. Work is primarily accomplished with and through volunteer leadership and following prescribed national Alzheimer's Association fundraising standards.

This position is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide leadership for implementation of the Utah Chapter's mass market events (i.e. state-wide Walk to End Alzheimer's, The Longest Day, Reason to Hope). Provide support to other fund raising efforts (i.e.  Annual campaigns, memorials, corporate sponsorship and other corporate gifts).
  • Responsible for managing fundraising event details including, but not limited to: calendaring, reports, goal management, timelines, meetings arrangements, appointments, communications, volunteer support, logistical details, vendor relations, permits, budget management, donor support and engagement, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Development Director and other staff members on prospective donor cultivation, solicitation strategies and actions to maximize fund-development opportunities. Effectively work as a member of the development team to achieve chapter fundraising objectives.
  • Execute fundraising goals for mass market special events, manage recruitment of corporate sponsors, teams and participants, plan and direct all logistical aspects of special events.
  • Responsible for recruitment, training, supervision and coaching of volunteers, including volunteer leaders.
  • Represent chapter at public events, conferences, workshops and media events where there is fundraising potential. Work to build understanding for the Alzheimer's Association, its research, programs and services in all communications with current and potential donors.
  • Assure compliance with all Association policies, procedures, standards and applicable regulatory requirements; promote Association-wide programs and initiatives.
  • Review and monitor revenue accounting and reporting systems in a timely manner.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; preferably in sales or marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience in mass market fundraising.
  • Positive attitude, self-starter, and detailed oriented person critical.
  • Proven success in making fundraising requests of individual and groups and meeting fund development goals
  • Proven success in supervising volunteers in fundraising activities including special events.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and Power Point.  Have experience with fundraising database programs and other web-based programs. Experience with graphic design a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to support other staff members and effectively collaborate on chapter strategic initiatives, priorities and mission fulfillment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds 
  • Must possess valid driver's license, good driving record and proof of automobile insurance.
