The YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge is looking for a motivated individual to serve as our Director of Development.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Leading by influence, this position will strategize, plan and implement the annual, capital and staff campaigns and support ongoing initiatives securing resources to support the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge.

Participates in the development of campaign structure through which community wide support for fundraising is achieved.

Ensures consistent support of the Annual Campaign by coordinating available resources directly for the branches within the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge.

Provides subject matter guidance and support to the CEO.

Stewards and maintains excellent donor relationships for the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge.

Recruits volunteer leadership for overall annual/capital campaign and develops an effective, comprehensive campaign program.

Data management of annual gifts and conducts regular analysis and reporting of campaign progress.

Maintains timely and appropriate acknowledgements of campaign gifts.

Assists with prospect/donor correspondence.

Assists in proposal development, develops grant proposals and donor requests. (Applicants must provide a sample grant that has been funded to be considered.)

Works with operations and branch directors to ensure all grant-funded programs have strong programmatic and outcome-based monitoring systems.

Assists in planning and implementation of special events, projects and committees when needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years experience in resource development with a direct focus on fundraising.

Fund-raising experience in capital campaigns, annual giving campaigns and special events.

Familiarity with the principles of annual campaign organization and marketing.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from donors, volunteers, senior leaders, and the general public.

Proven experience in cultivating and soliciting donations.

Strong customer relationship skills and public speaking experience.

Excellent written communication skills.

Must be highly organized

Experience in working closely with volunteers and in staffing volunteer committees/events.

Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA.

Previous YMCA experience preferred.
