Position Summary: Support the operation of the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s compliance program by performing chapter site compliance visits, reviewing adherence to national policy, regulatory bodies and best practices. Educate chapters on areas of opportunity.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business required. CPA or Certified Internal Auditor preferred.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in public accounting and/or audit field.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel. Database data entry & reporting required.
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations is helpful

Working Conditions:

  • Work in an office environment.
  • Frequent travel required.
  • May require work outside a traditional Monday – Friday work week, and outside normal business hours.
Skills/Experience: 

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Exhibits exceptional customer service skills; ability to work professionally with employees, chapters, and all levels of staff.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task and handle deadline pressures. Excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and IRS guidelines.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication.
  • Strong ability to audit and analyze data, and report trends and outcomes.

 Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs field audits of chapter compliance with Make-A-Wish policies and procedures through site visits and desk audits.
  • Participates in the annual review of chapter IRS Form 990 and the comparison to IRS guidelines, Make-A-Wish guidelines, and chapter audited financial information.
  • Acts as a member of the National Accounting staff outside of Compliance duties.
  • Investigates ways to improve chapter accounting and reporting.
  • Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
