This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director of Development at the Greater Waterbury YMCA serves on the CEO’s senior leadership team; is responsible for a $3.5 million dollar fundraising budget. These include; all grants, the Annual Support Campaign, capital campaign, endowment development, special events and other fundraising activities: such as: annual golf tournament, grant sourcing and United Way annual support. Director assists with the capital development of Camp properties including grant sourcing. Serves as administrative liaison between the Y and the board of directors, task forces, and volunteer and community committees.
- Plans campaign strategy and conducts all aspects of the annual support campaign and other campaigns as assigned including; soliciting, acknowledging, expressing appreciation and ensuring increased giving opportunities.
- Maintains database resource file for contributors and financial annual reports and audit.
- Works with Marketing Director to provide communication vehicles for more effective Board and staff campaign communications for informing and involving donors and the public (including their own).
- Develop and manage strategies to promote the Greater Waterbury YMCA mission and programs to internal constituencies, including current members, program participants, past members, staff, governing members, donors, and volunteers.
- Raise the public profile and visibility of the YMCA through enhanced outreach and collaboration, through continued innovative community initiatives and through collaborative efforts with community social service organizations.
- Assists and promotes the annual United Way proposal including annual Campership drive.
- Prepares and coordinates grant proposals for funding opportunities from government sources and private foundation.
- Prepares monthly/quarterly grant reports and billing as required.
- Prepares departmental budget.
- Plans, supports and attends special events, i.e. golf outing, receptions, annual meeting, Kids Marathon, Race4Chase, etc.
- Attends board meetings and relevant monthly committee/task force meetings and serves as secretary for all.
- Coordination and implementation of short and long term vision for West Main campus and camp facilities.
- Oversees and supports the marketing and social media communication efforts for the organization.
- Supervises the Marketing and Communications Director.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred.
- Must have the strategic skills and vision to harness the organization’s development capabilities to build and implement an effective and comprehensive fundraising program.
- Five years of full-time successful and innovative work experience in a comprehensive ($3.5 million or larger) fund development program, and one or more of the following (fundraising for a not-for-profit organization, public relations, communications or marketing.
- Experience identifying, submitting, preparing and coordinating grant-funded proposals.
- Possess a passion for the mission and values of the YMCA.
- Previous experience with voluntary/nonprofit organizations preferred.
- Excellent personal communication ability, attention to detail, accuracy in reporting and exceptional organizational skills are essential to success in this position.
