The Programs and Capabilities Specialist is a key contributor to the mission by guiding the development of national technology platforms designed to support Make-A-Wish wish-granting, volunteer, fundraising, and financial processes from end-to-end. This position serves as a Product Owner, supporting the work of the Senior Program Managers, and collaborating with key stakeholders, technology teams, and Make-A-Wish chapters to ensure that the system design and functionality meets the workflow needs of chapter staff, volunteers and other end users, that future enhancements are prioritized to meet business needs, and that the system achieves the desired business value and operational efficiencies.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve, in collaboration with Senior Managers on the Programs & Capabilities team, as product owner and business/chapter liaison for Galaxy technology initiatives;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create product requirements and design that aligns business needs, strategies and desired outcomes;
  • Become an expert user of technology platforms within Galaxy; participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and demos;
  • Partner with Sr. Manager to deepen understanding of implications on mission support and delivery, workflow and reporting at the chapter level;
  • Collaborate with Senior Managers to make key decisions about system priorities, design requirements and implementation on behalf of stakeholders, escalating issues requiring broader discussion or feedback;
  • Provide direction to the design team on product development and prioritization;
  • Maintain list of enhancement requests and identified defects. Manage the backlog for sprint and release planning. Assess and prioritize fixes and feature development based upon feedback gathered from project stakeholders, end users and technology team;
  • Facilitate communications and feedback loop with chapters and end-users on product design and development, deployment plans, and planned releases;
  • Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • First-hand knowledge and experience with Make-A-Wish chapter operations, mission delivery and volunteer processes is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute meaningfully to complex projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, organize and prioritize work, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Mindset toward continuous improvement and innovation.
  • High level of professionalism and interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage effectively with individuals at all experience and professional levels.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience managing large projects in a complex organization or business.
  • Prior Make-A-Wish experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of product ownership role a plus but not required.
  • Strong computer skills required. Prior experience with Salesforce desired but not required.
