To provide strategic communications direction and support to World Vision DR Congo through creating, implementing and overseeing communications and public engagement programmes that effectively describe and promote the organization’s visibility and its mission to children, their families and communities.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide overall coordination on communications for WV DRC EVD Response with a focus on Reputation and Influence, Public-Community Connections and Staff Engagement as they pertain to disaster response communications.
  • Reviewing the design of existing EVD response communication materials and activities and making recommendations for any necessary adjustments.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the appropriate and timely dissemination of Ebola response communication materials to target audiences and participating in the evaluation of their impact.
  • Monitoring and evaluating Ebola response communication activities by reviewing progress and identifying constraints through field visits, consultation with government counterparts, coordination commissions, partners and community members, and WV DRC EVD Response staff.
  • Develop EVD content specifically for media and social media channels that highlights community voice, WV response and addresses challenges of aid delivery.
  • Help manage media activity, ensuring coordination of media visits, enquiries and hosting responsibilities.
  • Help strengthen WV networking, advocacy and negotiation, especially at Ebola affected community level.
  • Support issues/reputation management related to the response in partnership with NO, RO and response management.
  • Visit impacted areas and WV programmes to in coordination with field communications staff to provide compelling content for Partnership public engagement needs.
  • Assisting in building alliances/partnerships with religious groups, traditional leaders, teachers and other organized groups in the community to orient them on Ebola response and solicit their involvement in its implementation.
  • Providing training and mentoring to strengthen the capacity of key WV DRC EVD response staff and partners for Ebola response.
Educational Background: 
A degree or equivalent in journalism or communications/public relations.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least five years professional experience in journalism or public relations is preferred.
  • English language fluency (written and verbal).
  • Excellent writing skills, with photographic and/or video skills also preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and manage strategically, plan and meet deadlines.
  • An energetic, analytical and self-starting approach to projects that involve significant responsibility.
  • General experience in project management, with specific experience in the production of diverse and creative communications projects including publications, multi-media, websites/pages, photo and video reports, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Able to travel and work in the field as an essential function of the position.
  • Personal faith in and commitment to Jesus Christ, as expressed through World Vision’s vision, mission and core values.
  • Computer literate.
  • Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversity and attend/participate/lead in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Working Environment/Travel:

  • Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field.
  • Travel: 50% Domestic/international travel is required.
  • On call: Regularly
