Tanenbaum seeks an experienced, full-time development professional to manage a small Development Department. This is a wonderful opportunity for growth and ownership over projects and processes in foundation, corporate, government, and individual giving. The Manager of Development will report to the CEO and Deputy CEO. He or she will be responsible for managing a department that consists of a Grant Writer/Coordinator and a Development Associate focused on individual giving.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Enhance the functioning of the Development Department through systematized project management and supervision of development staff
- Utilize, improve, and enhance if necessary preexisting fundraising systems and donor databases (i.e., research tools, techniques, DonorPerfect organization)
- Achieve defined fundraising goals
- Identify and research major gift prospects to expand and diversify Tanenbaum’s donor base
- Oversee and help to develop strategies and plan cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects
- Prepare weekly reports of departmental activity for the CEO and Deputy CEO
- Prepare and present analytical and strategic reports for the Development Committee and Board of Directors
- Liaise and strategize with the Development Committee, other lay leadership committees, and staff
- Work closely with the Finance and Operations Department to ensure reconciled financial data
- Coordinate with Communications Department to achieve optimal outreach to donors and prospects
- Perform other duties as required across the department and organization to maximize success
- Commitment to and nuanced understanding of the mission and goals of Tanenbaum
- Graduate degree in Nonprofit Management, Fund Development, Marketing, Strategic Communications, or other related field preferred
- 3+ years’ experience in fund development
- Departmental management experience
- Proven track record of effective project management
- Strategic planning experience
- Big picture thinking combined with hands-on work style
- Experience in major donor research
- Track record designing fundraising strategies, identifying major donors, and implementing those strategies
- Familiarity with budget creation and oversight
- Ability to analyze and present data
- Highly compelling written and oral communication skills
- Effective public speaking skills a plus
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated
- Strong computer skills with expertise in development technology, word processing, spreadsheets, database entry and management.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Communications experience a plus
- Willing to work occasional evening and weekend hours
- Sense of humor
