The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Advocacy Trainer in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX (Remote/Home Based is acceptable)
The Advocacy Trainer is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of the Voices for Healthy Kids (VFHK) strategic training plan which is designed to educated grantees, applicants, affiliate advocacy staff and key collaborators on VFHK advocacy issue priorities, campaigns, and practices.
This role is grant-funded and continuation is dependent upon continued funding of the program. Experience adapting training to the specific needs of a community is a plus.
- Ensures coordination of the VFHK training plan with the broader training plan of the Office of State Advocacy and other partners.
- Handles the development of the training needs assessment, training plan , and the timeline for implementation.
- Completes an annual updating of the plan to include recommendations for future evolution and efficiencies, factoring in adult learning styles.
- Facilitates and coordinates agenda development , content creation, and speaker engagement. Works closely with key staff and consultants for online and in person events.
- Plans, executes and handles all logistics for training, convenings, and related meetings. Leads evaluation of training for both in-person and online trainings.
- Maintains a virtual training library and inventory including periodic updates to existing content and the replacement of outdated content.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a training environment with at least three (3) of those working in a local, state and/or federal policy organization.
- Understanding of advocacy/public policy, community organization/mobilization, media/communications, and grassroots advocacy tactic development and implementation.
- Experience in/understanding of health equity and a dedication to building equitable communities.
- Ability to simultaneously handle multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time constraints.
- Detail and task-oriented as well as deadline-driven.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff, consultants and the public as part of a team.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Excellent customer service and verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to travel overnight approx. 10% of the time.
