The Development Specialist is part of a team that raises funds to support the Alzheimer’s Association’s vision, mission and programs and services. This position assists with the logistical details of the Alzheimer’s Association Purple Gala in the Twin Cities in collaboration with volunteers. In addition, they will assist with chapter-wide donor relations and other special events by providing support for projects and initiatives throughout the development department.
Areas of Responsibility:
Purple Gala (60%):
- Help lead the execution of day-of logistics and implementation of the gala
- Manage the auction and ticket processing online software used for the event
- Provide customer service for gala questions, all types of gala donors and gala attendees as well assist with post-gala follow-up
- Assist maintaining gala contact and mailing lists (auction solicitation, sponsorship solicitation, invitation mailing list, various prospecting lists, etc.)
- Contribute to the solicitation of auction donations, in-kind gifts, and other gala donations
- Assist with the Gala Committee and work with other volunteers as needed to meet annual gala objectives
- Co-supervise gala special event interns and provide opportunities for them to have a meaningful learning experience and adequate responsibility
General Development / Special Events (40%):
- Assist the Development Department with administrative and special projects. Assist Director of Corporate Partnerships and other development staff and with initiatives, events and projects as needed
- Assist maintaining donor/sponsorship prospecting and contact for the development department and specific events
- Provide assistance and support for the Association’s special events (e.g. Purple Gala, Young Champion fundraising events, Reason to Hope, Driving to Donate event, etc.)
- Represent the Association at designated benefit events or other Association events
- Assist with donor cultivation and recognition efforts
- Provide meeting support to Development and Gala committee meetings
- Respond to general donor inquiries/information requests and donation calls and provide timely and quality donor relations for the Chapter
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or 1-3 years work experience in a nonprofit setting
Skills/Experience:
- Understanding of development and fundraising programs preferred
- Professional experience in a nonprofit fundraising setting preferred
- Experience working with volunteers preferred
