FHI 360/The Goldozi Project is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Associate Director, Programs. The main purpose of this position is to manage the day-to-day activities of key program functional areas – mainly Value Chain, Marketing, Learning, and Mobile Application, to ensure high performance of local implementing partners and technical deliverables under the Cooperative Agreement. The Associate Director, Programs, will be an FHI 360 employee working in and placed at the FHI360/Goldozi office in Kabul. Under the guidance of the Chief of Party, the Associate Director, Programs, will:
- Manage all technical functional areas;
- Provide focused technical assistance as needed to local implementing partners to ensure smooth implementation of all technical interventions to project beneficiaries; and
- Identify new and strengthen existing market linkages to establish long-term relationships between buyers, sellers, and embroidered products producers and embroidered products value chain actors.
- Provide, guide, and ensure technical oversight of key functional areas as well as continually inform project planning and decisions.
- Develop annual technical implementing plans for incorporation into the annual work plan.
- Support the DCOP and M&E Manager to develop, maintain, and conduct ongoing quality assessments of the project technical functions and local implementing partner performance, consistent with meeting project targets.
- Share best practices and new approaches to technical implementation of project components. Represents The Goldozi Project at meetings, workshops, and other events as required.
- Establishes relationships with private sector stakeholders in the embroidered products and textiles value chains.
- Coordinates activities with implementers and stakeholders in targeted areas and where applicable facilitate communication between The Goldozi Project and outside organizations.
- Coordinate timely reporting to USAID (quarterly, annually, and other required FHI 360 reporting).
Value Chain:
- Oversee the management of the value chain team and grantees
- Oversee quality, authenticity, and ethical production
- Oversee cost estimates and financial planning for grantees in close coordination with the Finance Manager and the Grants Manager.
- Collaborate with crosscutting technical advisors to address gender integration, environmental concerns, market linkage development, and access to finance.
- Maintain good relationships between Goldozi stakeholders.
Marketing & Communications:
- Oversee the management of the marketing team and Goldozi grantees through market intelligence, developing marketing and product strategies, and links with market-related service providers.
- Plan and coordinate market exposure visits and B2B meetings between value chain actors to increase the ability of project beneficiaries to identify market opportunities and understand how to develop products, including perceptions of quality, competition, and buyer demand.
- Guide the value chain team and grantees in connecting Goldozi beneficiaries with priority buyer linkages.
- Identify and provide capacity building to grantees where appropriate, in collaboration with the value chain team, to strengthen market linkage development.
- Oversee Goldozi brand governance
- Working with the Communication Specialist, plan and execute a comprehensive marketing/communications campaign to reach target audiences through appropriate channels (i.e., social media, e-mail, television, radio, etc.).
- Coordinate with the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager to report data on markets, sales, and jobs creation and income generation.
- Identify, organize, and implement marketing events, such as exhibitions and trade shows, and play an integral role in the planning and implementation of two Industry Conferences over the life of the project.
- Oversee the learning specialist in the design, development, and implementation of training strategies for grantee Master Trainers and project beneficiaries, including advanced performance technologies and training methodologies.
- Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager to determine baselines and ways of measuring progress of project participants’ in a variety of different training settings (e.g., Goldozi Certificate Program, gender-based family forums, and other demand-driven training initiatives).
- Recognize and analyze training-related problems, and working with the Learning Specialist, apply appropriate techniques to resolve problems with emphasis on gender sensitization and the Afghan cultural context.
Mobile Application:
- Oversee the role of the Mobile Application Specialist, in rolling out a custom-designed, open-source Goldozi Mobile Application for Lead Entrepreneurs, that will enhance the tracking of sales and inventory management, preparing cross-cutting training materials, and delivering training to project beneficiaries in coordination with the Learning Specialist and Technical teams.
- Coordinate activities with FHI 360’s technology partner, Ustad Mobile, based in Dubai, on all aspects of the Mobile Application to monitor ongoing activities and conduct necessary follow-up, to support the features of the mobile application.
- Support the Mobile Application Specialist to ensure time estimates and priorities remain on track, to align with cross-functional goals and product benchmarks.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in a supervisory or management position in value chain development/ jobs creation.
- Experience designing and implementing value chain development components.
- Experience in decision-making for and providing technical assistance to local implementing partners
- Ability to solve problems and develop and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Experience providing guided technical assistance and mentorship to staff and local implementing partners
- Knowledge and experience working in the textiles sector and embroidered products value chain a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with people at all levels, internally and externally
