Candidate Profile

The Online Giving Manager drives online revenue to support AIUSA’s human rights mission. This position supports the Director of Direct Response to drive performance and meet ambitious revenue goals.  Online giving represents $4.3 million of the organizations $38 million revenue.  This position develops and implements strategies to bring in new online donors and upgrade and retain existing donors.  In coordination with the Direct Response Director, the Manager works closely with Campaigns, Communications and other Development units to maximize revenue across multiple channels.

The Manager is part of the Development Department and is responsible for fundraising goals, and s/he also collaborates very closely with the Public Affairs Department to ensure that online fundraising is part of the organization’s broader digital strategies, giving online audiences a consistent and coherent experience.

Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with Direct Response Director, creates annual and long-term goals and projections to ambitiously grow donor retention and fundraising targets.
  • Works with Direct Response Director and outside consultant to develop clear strategies to meet fundraising goals. This includes strategies for new donor acquisition and upgrade and retention of existing donors.  Responsible for implementing those strategies through hands-on execution and coordination between outside consultant and internal staff.
  • Develops and executes strategies for continually testing and analyzing performance data in order to increase donations. Ensure that the learning from both successes and failures is incorporated into strategies moving forward.
  • Works with Digital Director to integrate fundraising content into current digital calendars.
  • Partners with Direct Response Director and Digital Director to develop strategies and plans to ensure the fundraising, advocacy, and general communication online are integrated and consistent.
  • Makes recommendations to Direct Response Director and Digital Director for new digital tools, platforms, systems, or strategies that could be tested at AIUSA.
  • Works with social media and other digital teams to maximize giving and donor acquisition opportunities through these channels.
  • Monitors budgets and tracks spending. Tracks benchmarks for email performance and revenue generation.
  • Develops and analyzes detailed reports to track KPI’s on program performance.
  • Works with outside consultant to develop all email fundraising copy. Ensures content for all fundraising emails and tests are consistent with AIUSA’s style, policies and best practices.
  • Coordinates with staff responsible for email production and execution.
  • Keeps abreast of current and ongoing advances in digital strategy and communications including innovations in information dissemination, social media and engagement platforms, multimedia, and open source technologies.
  • Presents a positive image of work group and AIUSA to others.
  • Exercises judgment as to choice of work method/procedure and to schedule tasks appropriately to meet guidelines.
  • Actively partner with Digital and Campaigns teams to coordinate email communication streams, timelines, best practices, and testing schedules. This will include representing the Development team in weekly email team meetings.  
  • Ensure ongoing and vigorous optimization of all online donor acquisition and fundraising efforts, including donation form testing and researching and vetting of new apps and platforms.
  • Help lead organizational efforts to ensure the meaningful engagement of our online donor and subscriber audiences. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years of nonprofit, administrative, fundraising, online giving, or digital advocacy experience required. Experience growing online revenue and meeting ambitious goals preferred.
  • Understanding of nonprofit digital landscape, including email giving and advocacy, social media, SEM, best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple projects as a member of a cross-departmental team.
  • Experience working with and/or building an email list of at least 100,000 subscribers.
  • Experience with data analytics and project management.
  • Experience writing email copy.
  • Comfort learning new technology and working across multiple systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
