The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Manager, Scientific Sessions Programming in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX

The Sr. Manager provides strategic direction, leads, plans, directs and schedules preparations for program development for AHA’s largest annual scientific conference by working with volunteers, internal departments, and vendors. This role is responsible for supervising and mentoring four (4) full-time exempt associates.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversees the management of all educational content for AHA’s largest annual scientific conference, which includes all aspects of the invited program and abstract program.
  • Serves as staff lead for a large, national level scientific volunteer committee and works with this committee to develop the content for the annual conference.
  • Handles and remains current with state-of-the-art technology for the distribution of program content via various communication channels.
  • Plans, markets, prepares logistics, sponsorship, and budgeting for Scientific Sessions annually.
  • Handles all reporting associated with the conference program budget.
  • Delivers the program content with other AHA departments: Scientific Councils, Scientific Publishing, Exhibits, Registration and Housing, Corporate Relations, News Media, Communications, and Professional Education.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of adult education/meetings content development experience.
  • Strong volunteer and project management skills.
  • Strategic thinker and self-starter with the ability to set and meet critical deadlines.
  • Strong skills in written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge of standard principles and practices of administrative management, including but not limited to supervision of staff and management of budgets.
  • Ability to interact at all levels of AHA staff, volunteers and vendors.
  • Proficient with standard office software packages, including basic knowledge of PC-based database applications and web browsers.
  • Requires approx. 10% travel overnight.
