Combine financial accounting and people management skills to help change children's lives for the better.

World Vision is the world’s largest international children’s charity. Every day we bring real hope to millions of children in the world’s hardest places as a sign of God’s unconditional love. At World Vision, our aim is simple – to keep every child free from fear. We are also proud to be ranked 9thplace in the top 100 ‘Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For' in 2016.

The Financial Accounting Unit (FAU) performs financial accounting for World Vision UK (WVUK) including delivering financial services, designing and implementing its financial control environment and performing treasury management. The organisation relies heavily on the robust financial control environment, accuracy and timeliness of data and services that the FAU provides, with costly implications if this does not occur. The Senior Financial Accountant is instrumental in the planning and execution of the FAU’s accounting/control activity and service provision to the organisation, and leading process improvement in these areas. This includes line management, spiritual nurture and performance management of 2 team members (with a further 3 indirect reports) and taking a leadership role in the FAU.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Proactively plan and manage the FAU’s monthly financial accounting and control activities. Lead on task assignment to FAU team members and corresponding coaching and development.
  2. Apply judgement and initiative in the design, simplification and implementation of control activities to improve the organisation’s complex financial control environment, balancing assurance and investment cost-benefit.
  3. Line management, spiritual nurture and performance management of the Financial Accountant and Senior Financial Specialist – Treasury positions. Leadership role in the FAU to inspire, motivate, coordinate, train, and provide prioritisation, escalating issues to Financial Controller where appropriate.
  4. Act as in-house proactive authority and reactive adviser on financial accounting matters and draw upon external experts, where appropriate. Perform analysis and provide professional advice to the organisation on accounting for new business ventures and transactions, maintaining independence and ensuring compliance whilst offering favourable solutions where possible. This will often be complex in nature.
  5. Negotiate with the wider group and with budget holders on FAU organisational processes and compliance with policies incl. behaviours and timeframes.
  6. Build effective relationships with experts from external financial bodies (e.g. auditors) using influencing skills to defend WVUK’s desired accounting treatment.
  7. Take a proactive lead role in planning, coordinating and executing FAU continuous process improvement. Drive through the implementation and embedding of the new financial accounting system within the FAU and its internal customers, and take a lead in the development of future project phases.
  8. Cover for Financial Controller, Senior Treasury and Tax Accountant, Senior Financial Specialist – Treasury, and Financial Accountant when necessary.
  9. Reflect the organisation’s Christian values in leadership role, and apply own Christian faith in day to day work situations.

As an active Christian, this role offers you the opportunity to integrate your Christian faith and be sensitive to its various expressions across cultures and denominations.

In addition to the salary offered, we offer good benefits including pension, subsidised gym membership, generous holiday entitlement, childcare vouchers and free parking.
