The Social Media Manager plays a key role in WVUK’s strategy to persuade the public to join with us in standing with the world’s most vulnerable children. Reporting to the head of Media & Communications, the manager is responsible for the strategic growth of our social media operation.
Tens of thousands of people like and follow World Vision UK’s social media accounts; they are a key pathway for growing our committed supporter base. The manager will develop our social platforms to draw in and engage Christian and non-Christian audiences, driving them to support our cause through giving, fundraising, prayer and advocacy.
Our social media strategy is shaped by the content our priority audiences want to receive and share. The manager will refresh and develop plans to build audience reach across our social platforms. S/he will create, post and promote a diverse and distinctive flow of compelling content that engages audiences and drives traffic to our website.
The manager will lead a programme with staff, ambassadors, bloggers, church networks and media partners to share relevant WVUK content and post related user-generated content. S/he will test innovative approaches and trial new technologies that allow us to remain effective in a rapidly-changing social media landscape.
The manager will provide expertise in exploring different kinds of content and developing a distinctive and vibrant social media personality for WVUK. S/he will keep abreast of and respond to trends and stories in mainstream and social media. S/he will work closely with the media team - and more widely as part of integrated campaigns - to speak out about issues affecting the world’s most vulnerable children.
The manager will manage the representation and communication of World Vision UK in the social media space –building our brand and enhancing our reputation through the delivery of integrated content plans. S/he will manage a social media co-ordinator and advise managers across the organisation, including those in our fundraising, marketing & communications, advocacy and programmes teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, review and refresh strategies to maximise the impact of the WVUK strategy across all social media channels.
- Lead and grow WVUK’s social media operation, using insight and expertise to devise a programme of diverse and compelling contentthat draws in audiences, creates engagement and drives supporter action.
- Trial initiatives to build WVUK’s influence and personality on social media and create social media plans for integrated campaigns that build reach and compel audiences to view, react and click-through to our website.
- Act as WVUK’s social media expert for senior leaders, managers and all business units (campaigns, supporter growth, govt relations, media, HR, etc).
- Act as the trusted representative of the WVUK brand, including our Christian identity, on social media for all audiences, leading a programme of organic sharing with staff, ambassadors, bloggers, Christian networks and media partners.
- Enhance, and manage risk to WVUK’s reputation, leading the response to trending social and mainstream media stories and negative comment in an intelligent, agile and effective way.
- Manage the social media budget, promote content, train staff and invest in and trial new technologies and approaches to keep WVUK at the leading edge of social media.
- Introduce and embed social media processes and procedures that improve the impact of our social media operation.
- Achieve key team performance indicators, analysing and reporting on social media activity.
- Line-manage a social media co-ordinator, maximising performance, developing work opportunities and supporting personal growth and spiritual nurture.
