General Summary

The Development Associate plays a key leadership role in achieving budgetary and strategic goals as part of the Alzheimer's Association Oregon Chapter's strategic plan.  They are responsible for significant growth and development of the Chapter's signature event and manage development and execution of the local Longest Day recruitment and retention effort.  They are accountable for the achievement of income performance targets through the effective leadership, engagement, empowerment, and mobilization of a volunteer Team Task Force.

They are also responsible for revenue generation from other Constituent Events, e.g. RivAlz, AlzStars and will collaboratively work with and mentor volunteers and recruit, train and manage high level volunteer planning committees to lead the events in their respective communities.  They will also cultivate, develop and retain existing and new corporate partnerships.

This position reports to the Development Director and is based in Portland, OR.

Essential Job Functions

The Longest Day (70%)

  • Engages, trains and manages relationships with community based leadership volunteers (either chapter wide or regionally based) to develop and execute a local recruitment, cultivation and retention plan for new and veteran Longest Day teams
  • Completes activities effectively and efficiently to meet target deadlines for successful event execution
  • Ensures ongoing mission education for volunteer Team Task Force members
  • Implements best practices for leadership development, increased participation and event revenue growth; drives creativity and innovation at the community/chapter level.  Develops and demonstrates skills in community organization, relationship building, talent identification and leadership development.
  • Collaborates with other key departments to ensure cross promotion and support of organizational goals and/or messages
  • Identifies trends and best practices; measures impact of specific actions; identifies and addresses issues as they arise and adjusts plans as required
  • Utilizes available resources to maximize event results
  • Participates in webinars, conference calls and/or trainings offered by the Association for The Longest Day
  • Ensures inclusion of The Longest Day within Chapter promotional/communications channels including email, social media, e-News; public relations and local marketing efforts
  • Ensures compliance with Alzheimer's Association policies and procedures
RivAlz (BvB)( 20%):
  • Recruits RivAlz volunteer committee to implement best practices as described in the RivAlz handbook
  • Assists committee in revenue goal setting and expense budgeting and tracks revenue and expenses
  • Educates committee and participants on Alzheimer's disease and the Alzheimer's Association and assures proper use of the Alzheimer's Association brand.
  • Creates and manages the RivAlz Convio website for participant recruitment and fundraising
AlzStars (5%):
  • Participates in setting revenue goals and expense budget the AlzStars program annually
  • Researches and selects AlzStars events year to year with an emphasis on growing the program annually
  • Develops and implements strategies to recruit new participants to the AlzStars active events program
  • Creates and implements marketing plan to increase awareness of the AlzStars Program and the Alzheimer's Association.
  • Cultivates participants to ensure fundraising goals are met
  • Plans and presents informational sessions on the AlzStars program
  • Represents the Alzheimer's Association at information sessions, clinics, trainings & on event day
  • Provides materials necessary for successful recruitment and retention including: fundraising & training tools and Alzheimer's Association background/support materials.
Third Party Events (5%):
  • Tracks, monitors and provides appropriate support as needed

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; Marketing or Communications preferred
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in developing and executing holistic event strategies
  • Minimum 3 years' experience with event production and management, volunteer development and management, public relations, donor cultivation and relations, corporate sponsor cultivation and relations
  • Knowledge of Team Approach, Raiser's Edge, Convio and/or other databases preferred, Microsoft Suite and Google Suite: Mail, Calendar, Docs and Hangouts
  • Demonstrated project and time management skills to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines with strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated expertise recruiting and managing volunteers preferred
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability and willingness to make frequent trips within Chapter territory by car
  • Possess valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance
