As part of FHI 360’s United States Programs, the Social Marketing and Communication (SMC) department has distinctive competence in a science-based approach to social marketing and communication to address public health and other challenges in the U.S. SMC currently implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations, communication, and training and technical assistance projects in the U.S. that are funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, private associations, and foundations. In the past decade, our team has worked on issues such as obesity prevention, sexual health, cancer, asthma, diabetes, immunizations, violence prevention, access to health care, energy efficiency, pollution prevention, educational equity, workplace safety, and tobacco control and cessation.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • The Program Officer II will provide operational and communication support to the National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR). NCCOR brings together the nation’s leading research funders—the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), and U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA)—to address the problem of childhood obesity in America. In 2012, NCCOR was selected by then HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius for an HHSinnovates Award. NCCOR also received an NIH Director’s Award in 2011.   • The Program Officer II will oversee NCCOR workgroups and projects; provide oversight for NCCOR workgroups, scheduling meetings, developing agendas, drafting reports, and collaborating with NCCOR members to move projects forward; liaise with project staff and external partners among government agencies, private foundations, and nonprofits; develop and maintain a range of communication materials, including website content, case studies, reports, blog posts, and PowerPoint presentations; support coordination of in-person workshops and meetings; ensure quality control of projects; and contribute to new business development efforts, as required and appropriate.
Educational Background: 
Master's degree preferred with three or more years’ experience or bachelor's degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five or more years' experience with marketing, public relations, advertising, promotion, or other communications methods.
  • Experience with obesity, physical activity, and nutrition issues is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with technical and scientific topics preferred.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Proficiency with webinar platform software is a plus. 
  • Graphic design and/or web design & development experience a plus.
  • Superior organizational skills and acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate written and orally in a succinct, clear, persuasive manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member, prioritize, and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines.
  • Strong client relations skills leading to high client satisfaction.
  • Motivation and willingness to take initiative and full responsibility for various activities.
