PSI and its local affiliates manage malaria control programs in 32 countries and are world leaders in the distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) for malaria prevention. Since 1996 PSI and its affiliates have worked in partnership with National malaria control programs around the world to procure over 250 million Long-Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs). In 2014, PSI distributed 37 million LLINs alone. In addition to prevention, PSI is supporting Ministries of health to harness the power of the private sector to increase access to affordable, quality assured diagnosis and treatment of malaria.

We are looking for an experienced Program Manager (PM) for the Malaria Department. This position presents an excellent opportunity for a candidate with a background in program management and budgeting to be involved in the day-to-day running of a technical department.The PM must be passionate about malaria programming and willing to take on a variety of tasks. The PM is responsible for supporting centrally funded malaria programs, encompassing multiple donors and programmatic areas. The PM will be responsible for working on several multi-country programs and should have experience working with major donors such as USAID, Gates Foundation, and UNITAID. 

The Malaria PM should be willing to spend approximately 10% of the time traveling internationally on assignment, including difficult and remote environments.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Supervising the Malaria Program Management Team, including the Financial Analyst, the Senior Associate Program Manager, and the Associate Program Manager to regularly monitor centrally managed grants, preparation of donor invoices, development and realignment of donor budgets, labor tracking, analysis of grant modifications and close-outs, etc.
  • Coordinating administrative support and knowledge management needs for the Malaria team and centrally managed projects.
  • Developing and overseeing annual budget preparations for Malaria in collaboration with the Financial Analyst and the appropriate budget managers.
  • Providing technical support to Malaria platform programs including NBD support, development of technical assistance plans, facilitating linkages to technical resources, and TA visits to platforms as needed.
  • Provide program management to coordinate, monitor and track all progress against all donor and internal deliverables, donor and internal reporting requirements, and responses to donor requests and requests from PSI senior management.
  • Update and maintain internal knowledge management pages (KIX, Socialcast, SharePoint) pertaining to Malaria technical areas
  • Liaise with Regional Support Teams and technical and functional departments to ensure smooth project operations.
  • Fulfill other programmatic, technical and administrative functions as required.

The basics

  • You have at least five years relevant work experience, including experience in program management and working overseas.
  • You are passionate about working on malaria programs; previous experience in these areas is highly preferred.
  • You have a master’s degree in a relevant subject (MPH, MBA, MIA, etc.).
  • You can effortlessly perform a variety of tasks on short notice within designated deadlines, and keep cool under pressure.
  • You are highly organized and a self-starter. You strive to make systems better.
  • USAID contracts experience preferred.
  • You are fluent in English. Your ability to work in French a major plus.
  • References required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. B. PSI will not consider work visa sponsorship for this position.
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check.
