This position is responsible for the daily payroll activities for a large and geographically dispersed population.   This role is responsible for several key functions:  serving as backup to the Payroll Manager and primary point of contact in his/her absence, training  the payroll administrator and coordinator; performing the calculation of all wages and deductions to ensure compliance with federal and state laws; ensuring timely and accurate employee payroll processing; and maintaining policies and procedures for the payroll function.  
 Provides payroll services to employees, ensuring payroll is processed accurately and with a high level of customer service.  
 Interacts with talent strategy partners to ensure information is being obtained timely and accurately for payroll processing.
 Ensures payroll is processed in accordance with tax laws, wage and hour regulations and ACS internal policies.
 Assures that all payroll activities are entered correctly in a time sensitive manner.
 Takes steps to keep the payroll processing on-time and on-schedule and manages disruptions efficiently.
 Updates and maintains data in the HRIS system.
 Reviews payroll entries made by others (payroll filing, review of reports and data entries).
 Calculates and processes bi-weekly payroll for 1,000-plus employees using ADP Enterprise EV5.
 Demonstrates excellent customer service skills; must be able to handle difficult clients.
 Completes data entry and reconciliation of time sheets within E-Time and Workforce systems.  Responsible for corrections and updates, daily reports, general file and table maintenance, employee file changes, direct deposits, PTO adjustments, federal and state tax changes, and other items as required and/or directed.
 Works with Finsupport and IT to ensure quick resolution of issues.
 Reviews every payroll for accuracy.
 Calculates, documents and processes manual checks, stop payments and voids of existing checks; takes corrective action to reduce the number of these occurrences.
 Completes year-end payroll activities, including balancing and distribution of annual reports and W2’s.
 Responsible for payroll team training and development plan.
 Oversees e-time and payroll training within new hire orientations.
 Assists with departmental audit requests.
 Creates and updates timesheet calendar for employees.
 Communicates regularly with internal customers on upcoming payroll deadlines.
 Works with the Payroll Specialist to resolve payroll-related issues, such as overpayments and benefit deductions from employees on leave of absence.
 Maintains & secures payroll records.
 Works with general ledger accounting team to ensure proper reconciliation of payroll accounts, including follow-up and resolution of outstanding checks and other reconciling items.
 Develops and produces standardized reports and special reports as directed and/or requested.
 Effectively communicates and interacts with all levels of employees and management.
 Manages and maintains productive and successful relationships with the payroll service representative to ensure optimum benefit of the vendor product.
 Monitors and reviews the input of payroll-related employee information into the enterprise system.
 Administers policies and procedures related to payroll and tax law changes.
 Coordinates employee tax-related forms, statements and notices as required by law.
 Provides support and guidance to the American Cancer Society Divisions as needed and requested.
 Reviews and/or audits timekeeping records for compliance with established standards.
 Processes terminations.
 Reviews and/or audits payroll run data.  Confirms processed numbers against final numbers.

Position Requirements

Required: Minimum 5 years’ experience in a multi-state payroll Preferred: 3-5 years working on ADP Enterprise HR-Version 4 or higher and with ADPR. Understanding of payroll to include gross to net pay calculations (regular pay, overtime pay, tax withholdings, pre and post- tax deductions, etc.).  Working knowledge of federal & state payroll laws. Good math/accounting aptitude
Preferred: CPP designation.
Educational Requirements:
Required: High school education or equivalent.  Preferred:  BS degree in business from an accredited institution of higher learning.
