The Donor Engagement Director serves as a key ambassador focused on increasing contributed revenue and securing funds to advance the YMCA’s mission. This person serves as a frontline fundraising professional, working with leadership and volunteers to advance relationship-driven strategies and develop a caseload of high potential donors. This position is accountable for the achievement and advancement of mission, goals and objectives of the association by ensuring significant growth in contributed revenue each year. As a member of the development team, the director is also responsible for supporting development team strategies and empowering non-development staff to accomplish their fundraising goals while maintaining best practices. Helps cultivate a cause-driven culture of philanthropy that continually embraces the spirit of cooperation, team work, and accountability.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops and advances strategies that will acquire and significantly increase contributed income from donors with a primary focus on annualized gifts of $1,000 and greater.
  • Exceeds annual revenue and activity goals by managing and advancing an assigned caseload of donors and prospects.
  • Engages in discovery calls and meetings utilizing contact with donors and prospects as opportunities to generate leads for executive cultivation.
  • Ensures that timely, steps are taken toward qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and closure.
  • Develops and implements donor-centered goals and plans for each prospect in portfolio, cultivating and soliciting support in a way to allows the donor’s philanthropic interests to advance the organization’s highest priorities for annual campaign, endowment and capital projects.
  • Makes personal visits and other contacts to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and appropriately steward donors, with an emphasis on leadership and major gifts and well as retention and upgrade.
  • Builds relationships with donors and coordinates solicitations with staff and volunteer leadership.
  • Works across departments to secure appropriate project information, create proposals and secure gifts. Develops and maintains a thorough working knowledge of the Y’s cases for support, mission, and community needs to articulate the top priorities and fundraising objectives to donors.
  • Maintains a calendar of high-level engagement opportunities including special events, tours, site visits and volunteer opportunities for donors and ensures top donors are engaging in meaningful and impactful ways.
  • Participates in networking activities that open doors to the philanthropic community and increases visibility of the YMCA in communities of new potential donors.
  • Coordinates and supports the recruitment, training, and fostering of volunteers and staff involved in financial development efforts. Provide resources to volunteers and staff to support their philanthropic success.
  • Utilizes appropriate technologies to accomplish work including but not limited to database software to track stewardship, cultivation and engagement with an attention on top prospect portfolio. Responsible for recording activity and proposals in database. Organizes donor briefings for executive and volunteer leadership.
  • Assists in other projects and duties as needed and requested by the Sr. Director of Financial Development.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three more years’ related experience and proven success in fundraising or similar relationship-focused sales. Experience within a YMCA preferable.
  • Ability to build, maintain and deepen relationships and proven success in cultivating and securing financial support from an assigned caseload of donors capable of making major gifts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, an attention to detail, and exemplary interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve association goals. Independent decision making, attention to detail, organization and problem-solving skills are necessary.
  • Ability to meet goals under high pressure and deadlines through the indirect supervision of others including volunteers and staff. Ability to work across teams to manage multiple projects and events.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
    the community. Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification preferred or obtained within two years from date of hire.
  • Background must include strong skills in human relations, budgeting, sound fiscal management, financial development, program management, volunteer and staff development, committee and board relations
  • Represents the association in the community as needed and displays a professional and organized demeanor.  
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $39,000.00 - $49,000.00
