Mission Thrive community programs provide wellness-based programming to youth, adolescents and adults, primarily in the greater Baltimore area. Programs are designed to be replicated for public use in order to support positive growth in communities. Program effectiveness is supported by TIIH supported evaluation, best practices and research.

Broad Responsibilities

The Community Program Coordinator supports the Program Director in identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating TIIH community programs. The coordinator runs and manages the daily activities of the Institutes’ integrative health community programming in schools and local communities, primarily in the greater Baltimore area.  The Coordinator teaches nutrition education, cooking skills, mindfulness and other integrative modalities to adolescents and adults. The Coordinator serves as an ambassador for TIIH and interacts with community members including government, business, partner organizations, funders, and individuals. The Coordinator provides content for proposals, reports, website, social media, blogs, and researches community needs. The Coordinator must be well organized, an excellent writer, and requires a high level of professionalism.  

Areas of Responsibility: 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Manage nutrition education programming, primarily the Institute’s bulk-cooking and healthy eating program, Five Times a Feast, including: lead training and facilitate  hands-on workshops, identify venues, manage budgets, create and gather materials, identify and manage volunteers, coordinate data collection and reporting, conceptualize program dissemination, and work to grow scope of program outside of Baltimore area.
  • Coordinates the day to day operations of the Institute’s Mission Thrive Summer Program, a 5 week summer experience for rising 9th and 10th graders, located at the Real Food Farm in Baltimore City. Students learn hands-on experience of farming, cooking, leadership, physical activity, mindfulness, and life skills development.
  • Contributes to training, development and implementation of Mission Thrive Summer Crew Leader training, a 80 hour integrative health training, offered primarily to college students or recent college graduates.
  • Supports evaluation, research and design methods for Mission Thrive programs and initiatives.
  • Supports Program Director and Institute staff in identifying new opportunities to serve the Baltimore community, as well as those outside the Baltimore area.
  • Contributes to and writes content for educational resources, curriculum, grant applications, internal reports, reports to funders, and media/academic publications, etc.
  • Generates content updates to the TIIH website, blog, social media, and other programmatic materials. Supports marketing and communication strategies.
  • Attends regular local professional and community meetings and represents TIIH in a professional manner. Assists with educational and promotional outreach including health fairs and community events.
  • Prepare materials for meetings with potential partner organizations, community stakeholders and possible funders.
  • Attends and supports TIIH events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree
Skills/Experience: 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in health related field. Masters a plus.
  • Three years of work experience in community health and/or wellness- related program(s).
  • Knowledge of/or experience in integrative health, nutrition, public health or medical related field. Nutrition education/experience a plus.
  • Creative and entrepreneurial.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Proven effective time management, planning, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Solid computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail/Google Platforms.
  • Experience with social media platforms.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.

 

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must have reliable vehicle for use in performing some job requirements.
  • Must maintain current and valid insurance to cover personal mode of transportation.
  • Travel is primarily in the greater Baltimore area, but some out or state and overnight travel may be expected.
  • Ability to lift and carry certain items weighing up to 25 lbs.
