Provide guidance and oversight on volunteer recruitment, training, and support for the Myeloma Link project, which emphasizes enhancing awareness of multiple myeloma in African American communities as well as connecting African American multiple myeloma patients to the best possible support and care.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Assist in coordinating national-level partnerships with primarily African American-serving health and religious organizations that will expand Myeloma Link's potential to achieve its mission.
- Conduct Webex trainings for community outreach volunteers in eight Myeloma Link cities to share best practices and success strategies from the pilot.
- Identify creative ways to conduct outreach; foster and maintain local relationships with community partners, including health care providers.
- Provide support and guidance to community outreach volunteers (COVs) working on Myeloma Link, including hosting monthly phone calls with these COVs.
- Meet weekly (phone or in person) with the Senior Program Manager of Outreach and Health Promotion to make adjustments to program roll-out as needed.
- Conduct site visits across Myeloma Link cities as needed (travel required).
- Submit quarterly reports about volunteer and outreach activities to National Home Office.
- Maintain excellent knowledge of the LLS mission and programs.
- Contribute to presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor degree.
Skills/Experience:
- 2-3 years' relevant experience working or volunteering in a nonprofit and/or healthcare delivery setting.
- Community outreach or organizing experience.
- Program and staff management experience
Position Requirements:
- 15·25% travel to Myeloma Link sites across the country required.
- Detail oriented, flexible, and able to manage multiple programs from inception to completion in a fast paced environment.
- Experience and skills in problem solving, relationship and network building, and strategic partnerships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to articulate the LLS Mission (Research, Patient & Professional Programs, Advocacy/Policy) to a wide audience.
- Understanding of health behavior and health care delivery systems.
- Experience working with patients preferred.
- Ability to build, leverage, and maintain community relationships.
- Strong priority-setting and program management skills.
- Able to work with others in a wide variety of disciplines, e.g., vendors, staff, patients, and volunteers.
- Ability to work independently, thrive under pressure and perform multiple tasks.
- Understanding of health disparities, particularly those affecting African American communities in the United States.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office- Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
- Some Sunday and evening work may be required for events.
