The mission at Make-A-Wish America is to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a critical illness. The Accounting Specialist I CFS is a key contributor to the mission by working on the Central Financial Services (CFS) team. Under specific direction, this position assists the CFS team with accounts payable, data analysis, and reporting to support chapters.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Process all invoices for the Chapters, ensuring they are coded correctly and have appropriate approvals.
- Process purchase card expense reports into financial system, ensuring all required back-up documentation for all charges is obtained (itemized receipts, reports, etc.).
- Perform Financial Edge data uploads.
- Follow guidelines and procedures to be GAAP compliant.
- Support Projects through Lean Six Sigma
- Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
Educational Background:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in general business or accounting preferred
Skills/Experience:
- Exhibits exceptional customer service skills; ability to work professionally with employees, chapters, and all levels of staff
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively with the highest degree of accuracy while working in an environment of fluctuating priorities and frequent interruptions
- Strong attention to detail, analytical, time management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Maintains excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to compose effective business correspondences
- Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information.
- Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication.
- Keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills that support and enable sound decision making.
- Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills and the ability to compile, manipulate and optimize data
- Minimum 2 - 3 years of experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping field.
- Ability to 10-key by touch.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word. Database data entry & reporting required.
- Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations is helpful.
