Manage the execution of a comprehensive network communication strategy and plan designed to strengthen member understanding of and participation in national strategic initiatives. Use the power of strategic network communication to create energy, change perceptions, build trust, and generate new action and deepen engagement. Advance strategy by identifying change needed and communicate and translate to the Network.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Write and edit engaging copy focused on strategy, network news and events, learning, knowledge sharing and other topics relevant to network food bank members. Write and edit assets, including articles, intranet copy, emails, invitations, scripts, presentations and other collateral. Manage the review, approval and distribution of communication materials, as identified. Proofread materials for distribution and provide quality control.
- Work closely with the Feeding America President to translate and communicate vision and change needed to advance our strategies. Support weekly communication from the organization’s President, including managing the content and contributions from departments.
- Collaborate with the Network’s National Council to provide meeting minutes and communication support for this membership Council and enhance the continuity of communication from the Council to the broader network of food banks.
- Collaborate with Learning Team to provide communication support for conferences and strategic convenings, including event communications (pre, onsite, and post). Assist in capturing and communicating high-level takeaways from key Network events, including conferences and strategic convenings.
- Focus on the ease of access to information for key audiences (Network CEOs, senior leaders and local board leaders). Identify opportunities to simplify, streamline and synchronize communication. Provide clarity on how Network leaders can connect and participate in national strategies. Leverage insights from those in the Network and national office staff with Network experience.
- Collaborate and coordinate with the Communication team on workload for various organizational projects, coordinating efforts with other department functions.
- Specific projects include, but are not limited to: Network Communication Plan, semi-annual network call support, annual Report to Members, and quarterly Development Newsletter.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field or relevant experience
Skills/Experience:
- 5 years of experience writing/editing/ proofreading experience in corporate communications, journalism, publishing, public relations, marketing or related field. Experience working with C-suite and senior leaders

- Translates Strategy to Operational Goals – Ability to take defined strategies and develop communication plans to advance our efforts and initiatives with our network.
Required Technical Competencies and Experience
- Ability to translate complex concepts and ideas into materials and messages that are simple, clear and actionable.
- Conceptual, creative thinker with a passion for writing and storytelling. Content creation a plus.
- Strong team player interested in collaborating with multiple stakeholders to produce the best result while possessing a willingness to learn from others.
- High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments, deadlines and high-volume, meticulous work within a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- Strong working knowledge of traditional and emerging media and content platforms.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. HTML skills a plus.
