The Family Planning (FP) and Reproductive Health (RH) Department supports programs in 37 countries (and counting) to deliver h high-quality family planning and safe abortion services to women and girls. We protect our clients’ sexual and reproductive health by ensuring informed choice, voluntarism, client confidentiality, client safety and continuity of care. The Women's Health Project (WHP) is one of PSl 's largest global project. The Director of WHP not only leads the WHP project but plays a key leadership role in PSI global safe abortion strategic agenda. WHP focuses on increasing access to safe abortion services and post abortion care as well as access to long acting reversible contraception in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The WHP Director is passionate about improving the lives of women and their families by ensuring their rights to access of safe abortion and family planning services. S/he is experienced in implementing safe abortion and family planning programs, with a track record for expanding delivering of services and products closer to the consumer.

The Director is skilled and adept at managing and directing a team of global technical and project managers and provides strategic guidance to the in-country managers of WHP programs. S/he will also develop strong liaisons with PSI Market Directors and other organizational senior leaders to move the safe abortion agenda , in particular, forward into additional countries. The WHP Director is a memer of the FP/RH Senior Team and plays a key role in setting and supporting FP/RH department broader strategic goals and objectives.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • In collaboration with the WHP core team, you will lead and work with the broader FP/RH Department, other technical departments (e.g.  Evidence, Enterprise and Marketing), program management teams and country offices to ensure  that PSI meets its safe abortion agenda and WHP deliverables.
  • As a part of the RP/RH senior leadership team, you will help shape PSl's FP/R H strategy and be instrumental in its execution and achievement of goals.
  • Provide leadership and vision for PSl's overall safe abortion agenda.
  • Provide leadership and vision in the design, implementation and measurement of multi-country, safe abortion and family planning programming in partnership with country teams, relevant departments and other key stake holders.
  • Design innovative, sustainable and cost-effective interventions to meet WHP project deliverables and donor requests in collaboration with other departments such as Social Enterprise.
  • Serve as primary donor contact to maintain positive relationship, anticipate and address needs and concerns, and proactively communicate project progress to stakeholders.
  • Provide technical and programmatic guidance assistance to WHP countries through in-country technical assistance visits and remote assistance.
  • Responsible for the financial and budgetary oversight of the WH P project.
  • Ensure WH P project deliverables are achieved on time and to the highest standard.
  • Oversee internal and external program planning and reporting including annual work planning as well as funding proposals.
  • Facilitate the dissemination of project learnings to project staff as well as key stakeholders at international, regional and country levels.

  • Develop and manage a global team of program managers and technical experts.
  • Build partnerships and advocates for policies and programs that maximize impact and resources to further women's reproductive health.
  • Support and contribute to new business development opportunities for safe abortion and family planning programming, including developing new contacts and funding sources, identifying new project/product opportunities, writing proposals, providing technical review to country proposals and designing new programmatic intervention
  • Represent PSI's FP/RH work externally as needed through partner and donor meetings, conferences, dissemination of case studies, etc
Educational Background: 
You have a master’s degree or higher in relevant subject areas

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • You have 10+ years of professional experience, with at least 4 years of overseas work experience in implementing safe abortion and family planning
  • You have led large donor funded projects; management of multi-country programs
  • You have the ability to work fluently in English with French, Spanish or Portuguese language skills
  • You have demonstrated experience in both fundraising and maintaining relationships
  • You have created and managed diverse teams and have a strong ability to motivate, influence and collaborate with
  • You have strong facilitation, presentation and public speaking
  • You are organized, have strong communication skills and can manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast- paced
  • Safe abortion experience: You are passionate about and have experience working on safe abortion projects, including delivering services and products closer to the consumer.
