To facilitate community engagement, build and strengthen local partnerships, enhance community and partner capacity, and strengthen community-led initiatives/innovations to improve and sustain the well-being of children and families in relation to Child Protection, Spiritual Nurture, and Sponsorship.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Program Development and Implementation

  • Facilitate the planning and implementation of child protection activities using recommended models, techniques, standards and tools to achieve output targets within scope, time, and budget
  • Facilitate the implementation of AP-level Child Safe Organization (CSO) standards
  • Work with staff in other technical programs at Area Programme level to implement child protection activities for improved integrated implementation for impact and scale.
  • Facilitate reporting and follow-up of child protection incidents
  • Participate in the district-level Government initiatives in child protection
  • Support the establishment/strengthening of community based Child Protection systems
  • Contribute to the integration of Christian witness at the AP level and the wider community
  • Contribute to an ethos and culture in WV that is consistent with our Vision and Mission Statements, Core Values, Guiding Beliefs, and Policies
  • Working with the F&D Specialist, develop programmes for the spiritual formation of children, youth and their communities
  • Engage and coordinate with other Technical Programmes to create integration opportunities for child participation and achievement of Sponsorship Business Processes within the TPs that enhance the development of children's life skills. E.g. Christmas Cards, APRs, Community and child videos
  • Facilitate the standard alternative to Police Background checks for all volunteers
  • Facilitate birth registration for all registered children

Local Partnering and Networking

  • Work closely with the community and district-level partners such as the church and civil society organizations to mobilize community for local partnership and ownership, and participation in the implementation of child protection activities to achieve sustainability of technical programme interventions.
  • Represent WVZL in various key meetings on child protection at district level
  • Facilitate and support local level advocacy in child protection for better service provision/delivery.
  • Mobilize the community to participate in the interventions of activities related to the spiritual nurture of children and the strengthening of institutional relations in the community
  • Engage churches and other local institutions to participate in CCESP activities
  • Conduct semi-annual stakeholder meetings on child wellbeing
  • Conduct community education on child sponsorship

Capacity Building

  • Facilitate building capacity of CDW’s and Volunteers for effective roll out and activity implementation for child protection.
  • Facilitate training in child protection for community partners and other relevant stakeholders to ensure child protection activities are effectively implemented.
  • Implement church leader’s training workshops and other capacity building workshops in fostering the holistic nature of the organization
  • Train staff and community volunteers on emerging practices in child participation, child engagement and communication. E.g. SIP, SBT, Sponsorship 2.0, Horizon, QuickSTEP form and ID Card initiative
  • Train children in effective participation for child wellbeing
  • Facilitate training for staff on effective stakeholder engagement for child wellbeing

​Programme Effectiveness and Quality Assurance

  • In collaboration with DME specialist, build capacity for CDW’s and volunteers in child protection data collection, interpretation and utilization.
  • Facilitate joint technical monitoring and reporting of the project for effective implementation and quality control.
  • Write and timely submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports for improved technical programme decision making.
  • Participate in the review of technical program interventions for improved quality of programming.
  • Participate in documenting and sharing of programme lessons and promising practices with partners and stakeholders.
  • Periodically, liaise with Communications Department at the national office to record stories for video footage and write stories aimed at information sharing with the customer
  • Work with the AP staff and community volunteers to collate data as might be required within the context of CCESP
  • Write and timely submit monthly SNC reports to SNC lead
  • Facilitate annual community reflection summits
  • Facilitate semi-annual stakeholder meetings on child wellbeing
  • Submit monthly reports
  • Ensure the design and approval of Annual Progress Reports and Christmas Cards
  • Provide supervision and support to CIMOs to ensure quality child information (Accuracy, Validity and Timeliness) in AP SingleSTEP/Horizon and adherence to standards in sponsorship operations
Educational Background: 
​Degree in social sciences, education in early childhood with minimum 5 years’ experience in relevant field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be a committed Christian and inspire others;
  • Must be able to stand above denominational diversities and participate/lead in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Extra training in theological studies, child protection and participation will be an added advantage with minimum 2 years’ experience in the relevant field
  • Solid understanding of Convention on the Rights of Children (CRC) and other relevant international human rights standards protecting the rights of children
  • Experience using the systems approach to child protection; and strengthening community based child protection mechanisms
  • Training and facilitation skills
  • Good understanding of and respect for diverse churches and Christian organizations in the country and ability to effectively work with churches with different doctrines and traditions
  • Experience in Program Management in a complex, international organization preferably NGO context
  • Knowledge and understanding of World Vision operations would be an added advantage,
  • Experience in project implementation, monitoring and report writing essential
  • Must have excellent project management, community engagement, mobilisation, facilitating and donor engagement skills
  • Communications, interpersonal, analytical, conflict management, negotiation, and networking skills are highly desired
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, and must be a mature Christian.
  • Computer literate in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Capacity to function well in a team and contribute effectively to team efforts.
