Campaign Director, Light The Night

Responsible for achieving significant revenue goals by managing and implementing three large fundraising campaigns, Light The Night, to achieve and exceed budget for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in support of LLS’ mission, within Illinois and Northwest Indiana. Light The Night is an evening walk and the largest fundraising event for LLS nationally and in the Illinois chapter. It is the expectation that the Campaign Director is responsible for driving the success of this event to deliver year-over-year growth and exceed revenue goals. The primary focus of this position is fundraising and revenue development.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Implement the comprehensive strategic fundraising plan for three Light The Night Walk campaigns which includes organizational best practices, specific revenue and expense budget, timeline, recruitment, and sponsorship plan for each event.
  • Develop positive high-level volunteer interactions through recruitment, mentoring, and providing comprehensive support for volunteer leadership of the corporate efforts in particular. In addition, in order to support participants in the development and achievement of personal fundraising plans, the director is responsible for coaching volunteers to achieve their personal best as it pertains to revenue development.
  • Implement organizational best practices with regard to recruiting and managing high level volunteers, revenue generation activities, expense and fiscal controls and marketing/promotions and logistics resulting in chapter revenue growth and achievement of revenue goals.
  • Responsible for supervising and training campaign and support staff in the delivery of Light The Night and assuring each staff member has a specific revenue goal to which they are held accountable.
  • Identify target audiences and build appropriate recruitment and fundraising strategies to successfully recruit, acknowledge, and retain and upgrade event donors/participants.
  • Utilize proven promotional activities ensuring the success of Light The Night and to enhance public awareness of LLS and its mission.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the on-going fundraising campaign(s), including fundraising efficiency (cost/expense), community engagement, event satisfaction, and overall success of the campaign.
  • Partner with other team members to ensure media, material, in-kind and cash sponsorships are secured through a coordinated plan that includes proposal development, prospect identification, cultivation, retention and recognition.
  • Assure campaign materials required for the successful implementation of Light The Night, including recruitment/promotional flyers and brochures, invitations, posters, training materials, pledge retrieval or motivational materials, etc.
  • Represent Light The Night on the chapter senior leadership team.
  • Create a close partnership with the national Light The Night representatives.
  • Assist, as assigned, in the development and implementation of other chapter activities.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the LLS's mission and programs to promote the Society's fundraising, research, and patient initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 6 years fundraising experience preferred, successful sales professional will be considered
  • Special attention provided to candidates with previous experience as a Campaign Manager

  • Highly organized and professional demeanor.
  • Resourcefulness, promotions savvy and problem solving acumen.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations

  • May be required to move Campaign materials weighing up to 15 pounds for various events.
  • Travel up to 20%.
  • Required to work evenings or weekends.

  • Increase Awareness: Raise LLS brand awareness and engagement to drive revenue & establish LLS as the leading cancer organization driving cures & access.
  • Improve Net Profitability: Maximize net income from existing channels through prioritization, organizational alignment and optimization of resources.
  • Diversify Revenue: Identify and develop high-growth, high-margin revenue opportunities focusing on volunteer initiatives, eRevenue, donor development and new partner development.
