As a U.S. Advocacy Project Specialist Intern, you will have the opportunity to help Habitat affiliates across the nation, build their capacity to engage in advocacy and policy change. You will work on a wide array of projects related to Habitat’s domestic policy work, primarily assisting with event coordination for our annual legislative conference, "Habitat on the Hill," via communicating with internal Habitat departments in the organizing of advocacy workshops and materials, and tracking and highlighting affiliate advocacy efforts on social media. This position will provide hands-on experience organizing, coordinating, and planning workshops and learning opportunities as they relate to nonprofit organizations and advocacy. The U.S. Advocacy Project Specialist Intern will have the opportunity to attend "Habitat on the Hill" 2019 and meet with their legislators on Capitol Hill.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coordinating organizational aspects of "Habitat on the Hill" 2019
  • Assisting with presentation production for the 2019 Affiliate Conference
  • Managing social media communications for conferences and learning opportunities
  • Managing conference technologies, inputting content into website and phone application
  • Capturing and highlighting affiliate successes on social media and in newsletters
  • Represent Habitat for Humanity at coalition meetings and policy events
Educational Background: 
Current Undergraduate or Graduate student
Skills/Experience: 
  • Organizational skills, especially in regards to event management
  • Exceptionally strong communications skills; must be able to easily communicate with Habitat affiliates across the country
  • Social media experience
  • Strong writing and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to take on individual projects as well as work in a team
  • Consistent attention to detail
  • Microsoft Office savvy

  • Website development

  • Enthusiasm for social justice
  • Interest in affordable housing issues
