The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Alumni Outreach Specialist for Puerto Rico/Miami connects, serves and empowers WWP Alumni and family members by actively engaging with wounded service members and their guests, leading team outreach to wounded service members, community partners, and WWP Supporters, and coordinating and supporting Alumni volunteer-led events in Puerto Rico. The Alumni Outreach Specialist-Puerto Rico/Miami also supports Alumni teammates, warrior leaders, and peer support groups in southern Florida.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Connect with wounded service members, their families, and family support members who are in transition or have separated from military service. Establish rapport with them and communicate the benefits of WWP programs and services provided for wounded warriors, and refer them to appropriate WWP programs, resources, or staff to assist with their long-term recovery and empowerment.
- Travel to and work in Puerto Rico a minimum of one week each month to manage Alumni events and to meet with Peer Support leadership.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with Puerto Rico’s Veteran’s Administration (VA), Veteran Centers, local military leadership, WWP community partners and WWP supporters to enhance the mission of WWP.
- Oversee administration, logistics, and execution for the Alumni peer leader activities and personnel.
- Plan local or regional events and activities for the benefit of Alumni and their families and encourage them to participate and connect with other Alumni.
- Support planning and administrative requirements of peer leader events, specifically Peer Support Groups and Warrior-led activities.
- Maintain current and accurate data in WWP intranet electronic tracking systems, e.g., SalesForce. Collect and report results and performance metrics for Alumni events and activities.
- Regularly communicate and network with wounded warriors, serving as a resource and mentor.
- Communicate the benefits of WWP programs and services to members of the community and encourage them to become involved with WWP and support the WWP vision.
- Ensure proper expense controls and accurate records.
- Utilize expense controls and seek cost saving opportunities to help manage budget effectively.
- Establish effective working relationships and work collaboratively with WWP teammates.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
High school diploma or GED. Equivalent combination of education, applicable military experience, training, or certification may be considered in lieu of degree.

Education & Experience Requirements
- Bi-lingual in Spanish and English. Fully fluent speaking, reading, and writing Spanish and English.
- Two years of experience developing and building relationships with veterans, or veteran’s or military organizations, or members of the community.
- One year of experience with computer software, e.g., Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Preferences
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Three years of experience planning events or community activities.
- Two years of experience working with WWP or volunteering with WWP and having a familiarity of WWP programs and services.
- Two years of experience coordinating volunteers.
Certifications & Licensure
- Valid driver’s license required.
