FHI 360 seeks a Youth Agricultural Specialist for a USAID Uganda Feed the Future program that aims to increase incomes and improve livelihoods of households through agriculture-led economic growth.

Activities will increase the institutional capacity of government institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations, and will create incentives for agribusiness to invest in market systems and be more responsive to changes.

The Youth Agricultural Specialist will lead youth engagement activities and oversee interventions to ensure youth are meaningfully included in targeted VCs.

S/he will seek off-farm opportunities to engage youth in agribusiness, access to finance, ICT, and nutrition; and ensures integration of youth protection strategies.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide guidance to the Chief of Party and field staff on youth inclusion all program areas;
  • Conduct youth analysis at program outset and incorporate findings in work plan and baseline data for on-going monitoring and learning purposes;
  • Deliver technical assistance to stakeholders to build capacity around development of inclusive practices and policies;
  • Incorporate youth and inclusion issues in all activities, including the analysis of policies and legislation and advocacy;
  • Ensure that knowledge management (KM) is integrated to key processes, programming, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation.
  • Work closely with field and HQ staff, including Chief of Party, SBCC and technical specialists to develop appropriate content delivery via various dissemination channels for illiterate, semi-literate and literate populations;
  • Develop annual project work plans in collaboration with field staff, and contribute inputs to all donor related reporting mechanisms; and
  • Address any impediments to sharing information and the flow of knowledge, facilitate demand and supply of knowledge.
Educational Background: 
University degree in agriculture, anthropology or international development/relations.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in youth-focused agricultural programming
  • Previous experience conducting gender related assessments and demonstrated experience developing and integrating inclusive-related content and messaging in communications, tools and training materials, and in project activities across all technical components.
  • Experience in training, capacity building, advocacy and outreach.
  • USAID experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Experience in Uganda required.
