The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Email Marketing Specialist is responsible for the execution of direct response email communication planning and implementation. This position will manage online communications from copy through creative, fact checking, branding and accuracy while interfacing with staff across departments, agencies and vendors and have daily interaction targeting online house database growth; increasing online donations and registrations; increasing donor retention and conversion rates; and strengthening the integrity, security, and accuracy of online donor data.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead creative development for videos, photos, etc. as it pertains to emails in support of online fundraising working with Online Fundraising Specialist to ensure creative considers technical solutions
  • Review and approve email campaign briefs in coordination with the Online Fundraising Specialist
  • Manage the email project list and ensure campaigns are executed on time
  • Participate in email acquisition calls with vendors and lead production of email acquisition campaigns
  • Review and approve emails and eNewsletters to ensure the campaigns meet expectations outlined in the creative brief as well as brand standards and strategic expectations outlined in the strategic plan (i.e., including segmentation and trigger email campaigns)
  • Manage eNewsletter content development
  • Ensure A/B testing and segmentation is done properly within email campaigns
  • Ensure email creative reflects a responsive design
  • Support acquisition emails including email list rental and third party crowdsourcing acquisition emails
  • Ensure email campaigns are SEO compatible
  • Work closely with other members of the Resource Development department and other WWP departments to gather information to develop content for email campaigns
  • Work with Resource Development teams to review their email campaign strategies and work with vendors to adjust Direct Response mailing lists as needed
  • Work with Direct Response Television team to develop email communications to sustainers
  • Work with Online Fundraising Specialist to produce internal email reporting and provide analysis
  • Review vendor email reports for accuracy and communicate vendor report analysis to Online Fundraising Specialist
  • Coordinate the process of adding email campaigns to woundedwarriorproject.org website for SEO
  • Maintain a repository of Direct Response email communications on the Direct Response network drive
  • Generate appeal codes and tracking URLs for email campaigns and maintain coding repository
  • Manage online premium process to include budget and art approvals, revenue projections, and monitoring fulfillment to ensure campaigns are adjusted accordingly
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required preferably in Marketing or Communications
Skills/Experience: 
  • Inherent understanding of online marketing and sales concepts
  • Demonstrated writing and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of HTML programming
  • Familiarity with database querying
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Process and vendor management experience
  • Clear communicator – excellent phone and interpersonal skills
  • Organized and detail oriented with ability to prioritize and manage time well
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable in a fast paced environment – comfortable taking initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise confidentiality and good judgment when working with sensitive issues
  • Must be a team player, with ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful and mature manner

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Minimum two years of experience in email marketing required
  • Minimum of one year experience in online data analysis and reporting required
  • Minimum of one year experience in managing vendors preferred
  • Experience with brand management preferred
  • Experience working in non-profit organizations is highly preferred
  • Experience working with service providers / IT vendors is desirable
