Save the Children has joined forces with StriveTogether and Berea College Partners for Education to design and launch a collective impact model for rural America. Together, our goal is to increase college and career readiness among the rural poor – with a focus on early developmental milestones of kindergarten-readiness and third-grade reading and math proficiency.

The Collective Impact Director is responsible for the design, implementation and continuous improvement of the Rural Collective Impact Initiative. The ideal candidate is results orientated, creative, with strong attention to detail. Excellent communication and facilitation skills are a must. Some experience with Results Count and/or emergent learning is welcome. This is a unique opportunity to work with national leaders in cradle-to-career partnerships and ensure that Save the Children helps every child succeed.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Build internal capacity within Save the Children US Programs & Advocacy to implement Collective Impact approaches: (30%)

  • Lead design and implementation of Collective Impact training and capacity building program.
  • Work closely with coaches from StriveTogether and Partners for Education to oversee the planning and execution of intensive Results Count training program for Save the Children USPA colleagues – including managing all program and event logistics and contract relationships.
  • Hold accountability for results, leading internal planning and debrief processes and data analyses to improve the design and delivery of training program with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain internal community of practice around Collective Impact.
  • Work with technical and operational leadership to build and improve data collection, analysis and sharing – with a focus on results.

Support development of Collaborative Action Networks in each Collective Impact community: (50%)

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with collective impact staff (three counties in 2018-19, adding up to three additional counties by 2021).
  • Support the design and execution of strategies for each Collaborative Action Network.
  • Ensure accountability for results – particularly for increasing measure of kindergarten readiness and third-grade reading/math.
  • Provide coaching and strategic assistance and assess requests for financial assistance.
  • Track ongoing partnership performance and progress.
  • Build a community of practice across the rural collective impact network. Lift up examples and stories of bright spots, promising practices and lessons learned to support the amplification of learning across the team, the network and the broader field.

Ensure integration of Collective Impact work within the broader Save the Children USPA strategy: (20%)

  • As a member of the Program Leadership Team, work closely with other leaders in USPA to maintain alignment, share resources and find efficiencies.
  • Serve as the primarily liaison between Save the Children program staff and partners and community Collaborative Action Networks.
  • Work closely with AVP Program Quality & Implementation and Senior Director Field Operations to assess and develop a “pipeline” of rural communities for expansion of the Rural Collective Impact Initiative.
  • Represent Save the Children within the broader Collective Impact and Cradle-to-Career movements.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • You have a minimum 7-10 years' experience in area of expertise
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Superior interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Collaborative and collegial leadership style.
  • An aptitude for and ability to work in a results-focused environment, which could include familiarity with the Annie E. Casey Results Count model and collective impact framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to cross boundaries of race, class, ethnic origin and personal philosophy. Capacity to work effectively with a broad range of constituencies.
  • Proven ability to effectively supervise staff and consultants.
