Manager, Resource Development--US Programs and Advocacy

The Manager, Resource Development is a vital position, with a focus on supporting foundation fundraising for our domestic programs & advocacy campaigns. The position focuses heavily on writing donor communications (e.g. proposals, reports, letters of interest), as well as research and collaboration across the division and organization. The Manager is a non-revenue generating, support role and does not have an individual fundraising target.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Writing and Donor Communications (70%)

  • Support the U.S. Programs & Advocacy Resource Development team and Strategic Foundation Partnerships team in securing foundation funding to meet their shared revenue targets for Save the Children’s domestic programs and advocacy campaigns.
  • Develop, write and assemble high-quality letters of interest, proposals, reports and other donor communications that comply with requirements and align well with interest and need, both internally and externally.
  • Develop materials to support ongoing donor stewardship.
  • Maintain relevant donor/prospect files in the donor database (Blackbaud/BBEC), including tracking funder interactions.
  • Maintain detailed grant tracking and grants calendar.
  • Develop and update boilerplate, donor-facing language as needed.

Research (20%)

  • Research and identify foundation prospects. Rate prospects for prioritization and propose cultivation strategies in collaboration with appropriate colleagues.
  • Research and summarize data and information from various sources for use in proposal and report narratives, as well as other donor communications.

Special Projects & Administration (10%)

  • Draft briefs for donor meetings.
  • Review, analyze and compile foundation fundraising data and information for regular updates to manager and division leadership.
  • Provide support as requested for special projects.
Educational Background: 
High School or Technical/Vocational Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3-5 years professional experience in non-profit fundraising
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated success in writing grants and other donor communications (e.g. letters of inquiry, proposals, reports).
  • Strong relationship and partnership orientation. A team player with an institution-wide view. Respect for teamwork and appropriate communication and coordination with colleagues.
  • A commitment to working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, collaborative environment with shared goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization. Able to develop and move projects forward with independence and autonomy.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness.
  • Excellent organization and project management capabilities, and able to identify and maximize resources to ensure the success of projects.

  • Strong background in grant writing and reporting
