DC Habitat’s Home Repairs Program is being established in order to increase the number of families served by HFHDC and should be designed such that fees to homeowners or government agencies will more than off-set costs to HFHDC. The program will include various types of efforts to support existing homeowners in need, including but not limited to home repair and weatherization. Examples of projects includes exterior painting, window repair, porch or wheelchair ramp construction, major roof repair or replacement, etc. Some projects may be executed through use of volunteer labor.
- Maintain program parameters: repayment structures, Program application and selection process, and evaluation methods.
- Continually develop and update appropriate budget and staffing plans and gain cross-departmental support to ensure program sustainability.
- Process program applications and lead the selection process. Work with partner families to develop appropriate scopes of work, project timelines, and repayment structures.
- Manage Home Repair construction work by leading on-site projects from start to finish. Responsible for pricing, material purchase, and site supervision. Ensure sites are compliant with safety regulations. Acquire appropriate permits and verify regulatory compliance.
- Determine when volunteer labor may be used on specific jobs and coordinate with Volunteer Services Manager.
- Maintain appropriate equipment/inventory levels through purchase, management of gift-in-kind donations, and proper care and maintenance of existing equipment.
- Support development/fundraising team as needed on managing gift-in-kind donations.
- Bid, negotiate, and contract subcontractors as needed.
- Meeting with Home Repairs Program Supervisor and Sr. PM to give status reports on projects and potential leads.
- Support finance department for the proper management of billing and invoicing to clients and possible city agencies including Office on Aging and Department of Housing and Community Development
- Outreach to potential applicants to the program
- Evaluate potential jobs based on resources
- Occasional assistance with home building operation as needed
- Other duties as required
Performs construction work including (but not limited to):
- Porch repairs
- Installing chair lifts
- Building wheelchair ramps
- Adding insulation to attics or basements
- Door frame adjustments
- Roof repair/replacement
- Exterior painting
- Nonstructural concrete repairs
- Fencing
This position requires a strong cross-functional team player who is knowledgeable about neighborhood revitalization and who has a commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity. Ability to work Tuesday through Saturday, with occasional evening and weekend engagements.
Specific qualifications include:
- Knowledge of General Contracting
- Rehab and home repair construction experience is necessary
- Ability to develop appropriate scope of work for home repair projects, accurately price that scope, and lead the subsequent construction efforts.
- Ability to set expectations and communicate clearly with clients regarding scope of work and payment process, as well as to potential clients regarding the application process
- Ability to work within (and lead) a team and to delegate and manage volunteers
- Ability to advertise and speak about the Home Repair program to new and potential clients
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team to solve problems, brainstorm new ideas, and develop short- and long-range plans
- Ability to engage in regular and meaningful organizational planning in order to visualize departmental and organizational goals and objectives
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Excel and ability to learn volunteer/donor database
