The Store Director provides overall managerial leadership for the Habitat for Humanity of Island County stores in accordance with the directives, policies and objectives. The Store Director accepts the covenant of Habitat for Humanity and is a leading advocate of the affiliate in regards to fulfilling the mission and vision statements.

Reports to the CEO/Executive Director. Maintains a working relationship and coordinates fundraising activities. Oversees multiple stores and managers over each store. Sets the overall strategy and goals for all store operations for the affiliate.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Act as the chief administrator responsible for managing all aspects of the stores operations.
  • Manage the stores by directing, training, supervising, and recognizing the paid and volunteer staff in performance of assigned duties.
  • Create/maintain job descriptions for all store employees.
  • Perform annual performance reviews and set goals for staff.
  • Maintain vacation and sick leave records.
  • Establish office procedures, guidelines and performance standards.
  • Oversees all aspects of the retail environment.
  • Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps and motivates staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure communication of relevant issues flows amount all groups.
  • Ensure the stores adheres to government regulations as well as the policies of Habitat for Humanity of Island County and Habitat for Humanity International.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for the staff and volunteers.
  • Participate/lead long range planning and visioning.

Financial Management:

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of sound financial practices.
  • Work with the CEO/Executive Director in preparing a yearly budget. Ensure that the stores operate within budget guidelines.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of financial projections.
  • Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the stores to carry out its mission.

Community Relations and Store Development:

  • Serve as spokesperson for the stores.
  • Actively participate with appropriate community groups which share the goals of Habitat for Humanity of Island County and the stores.
  • Establish and nurture good media relationships.
  • Oversee development and implementation of communications/marketing plan.
  • Ensure that the activities of the stores, its programs and goals are publicized.
  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with volunteers, community groups and other organizations.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years experience in retail management or other relevant management experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be able to articulate the mission, values and goals of Habitat for Humanity of Island County stores.
  • Must be organized, able to meet deadlines and able to manage projects.
  • Must possess the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field, including training provided by Habitat for Humanity of Island County.
