The Executive Director provides overall operational leadership in achieving the organization’s mission and directing the day-to-day activities of Lubbock Habitat for Humanity (LHFH). This is to be achieved in accordance with Habitat for Humanity International stated purpose and in such a manner that optimizes the desired results. He/She works with the Board of Directors to develop a plan for achieving the organization’s mission, strategy, annual goals and objectives, and directs the staff and operational components of the organization toward the achievement of these goals. Responsibilities include fundraising, community relations and awareness-raising, financial management, strategic planning, staff supervision and leadership, and serving as a liaison with the board of directors.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Public Relations / Resource Development

  • Serve as primary spokesperson for the organization.
  • Provide leadership for solicitation of major gifts, including identifying and meeting with major corporate and individual donors.
  • Seek, apply, and oversee grants.
  • Cultivate in-kind materials and land donations whenever possible and report all real and potential donations to the Board of Directors.
  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with volunteers, home sponsors, partner families, community groups, and other organizations.
  • Serve as a consultant to help implement fund raising programs such as special events, direct mail and alternative financing programs.
  • Develop and maintain an effective community communication program via multiple media channels.
  • Maintain and expand LHFH visibility and partnerships in the community. This would include outreach to all local religious, business, civic and volunteer organizations, foundations or other charitable giving organizations as well as other government and non-government housing and human services organizations.

General Administration (~25%)

  • Oversee implementation of affiliate policies and procedures for the affiliate, outlying community extensions. Responsible for public accountability of the organization and implementation of policies adopted by the Board.
  • Coordinate with Texas Tech University Habitat for Humanity Chapter student organization.
  • Develop the yearly budgets in coordination with the Finance Committee.
  • Prepare monthly report for Board of Directors Meeting including assisting the Finance Committee with a monthly financial report.
  • Assist the Board with long-term planning through the creation, implementation, and timely updates of the Strategic Plan.
  • Assist Board/nominating committee in recruiting and training new Board members.
  • Provide leadership to Homeowner Selection Committee including but not limited to planning and implementing Homeowner Selection training sessions.
  • Source and ensure availability of suitable sites for home construction projects.
  • Oversee day to day office management, including supervising staff bookkeeper.

Construction Project Management (~15%)

  • Develops and recommends construction projects to the Board of Directors. Project types include new home construction, Neighborhood Revitalization, and other opportunities that might arise.
  • Oversees all construction projects with the assistance of professional or volunteer project managers and site supervisors.
  • Ensures proper safety procedures are implemented at all construction sites. Obtains and provides appropriate training for staff as required for maintaining safety standards.

Restores (~5%)

  • Have responsibility for appropriate administration oversight on human relations such as maintaining files, employee background checks, credit screening, drug screening, all various types of insurance related to ReStores, real estate leases, Habitat International ReStore requirements, and other appropriate municipal , state and federal matters.
  • Shall provide administration support to the ReStores operations as needed. The ED will receive monthly financial reports and will be a participant in the ReStores monthly meetings and more frequently if necessary to review questions regarding any significant, confusing or irregular financial items.

Other (~5%)

  • Manage other special needs as situations or opportunities arise in the course of this position.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor degree (4 year) or equivalent experience. Specialization in communications / public relations, business, or non-profit administration preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Has an understanding of and commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity International.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish, foster and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, the public, local government, and community service agencies.
  • Effective verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create a long-term vision and provide leadership.
  • Ability to synthesize complex and/or diverse information.
  • Knowledge of mortgage procedures.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and processes and the ability to develop working relationships with potential funding sources.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully, and effectively lead by displaying sound and accurate judgment.
  • Ability to communicate LHFH program and mission clearly and persuasively in a variety of settings and to a variety of constituencies.
  • Must be a good listener and be able to engage in well-considered discussions.
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug test.

Compensation & Working Environment:

  • 40 hour per week salaried position that also requires additional evening and weekend work.
  • Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
