The Senior Specialist for the Hurricane Irma Recovery Program will lead the delivery of Save the Children's Psychosocial Support and Preparedness Programs in Florida and serve as Save the Children's lead partnership representative in the state. The position will provide managerial, technical, operational, and logistical leadership for recovery programs. The Sr. Specialist will also manage special projects for the domestic emergencies unit, including strengthening program documentation and processes that will enhance program delivery.

As a frontline representative of Save the Children, the position holder is required to ensure the safety and protection of children and families that the incumbent comes in contact with and to represent the agency values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaboration, Creativity and Integrity.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Lead the management and implementation of Psychosocial Support and Protection and Preparedness Programs in Florida (50%)

  • Lead the process of building and maintaining relationships with schools, child care coalitions, and other state, local and institutional partners.
  • Oversee budget, monitor awardee grant implementation.
  • Manage high-perComplete and submit periodic program reporting.
  • Oversee logistics for program trainings; manage monitoring and evaluation data; and track and report on program expenses.
  • Conduct regular site visits and program fidelity checks to ensure that Save the Children's programs, whether implemented directly or through partners, adhere to the highest technical standards.
  • Coordinate regular meetings with program technical teams to ensure program fidelity and quality.
  • Order, assemble, and distribute additional program materials to partners as needed.

Manage special projects to facilitate the continuous improvement of domestic emergency programs (40%)

  • Support Domestic Emergencies unit in delivering continuous improvement projects that increase our reach and impact for children and communities when disaster strikes
  • Strengthen program documentation and processes that enable effective program delivery through creation of tools, templates and guidelines
  • Improve program partner identification and management processes that help streamline funding and program implementation

Support domestic emergency responses (10%)

  • Inform U.S. response and recovery protocol and strategies based on partnerships and field learnings.
  • Deploy to major domestic disasters as a member of disaster response team
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience managing emergency response and recovery programs
  • 5+ years project management
  • 5+ years working with community organizations, preferably child-serving institutions and agencies
  • Experience in developing training programs including presentation and teaching skills, and training-of-trainers method.
  • Experience working with a wide variety of stakeholders including public, private, governmental and non-profit players.
  • Must be willing to travel 25-30%

  • Documented strength in meaningful relationship building, management and growth
  • Microsoft Office proficient (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
