The Alzheimer's Association is looking for a dynamic, professional to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned gifts from individuals, families and family foundations in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. The ideal candidate will have experience and success in raising gifts at the $10,000 - $100,000 levels as well as working with key internal and external stakeholders to build stronger donor relationships. This position reports to the Midwest Director in collaboration and partnership with the region's Executive Donor Advisor.

This position can be based in Detroit, Cleveland, or Cincinnati.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Primary focus will be to Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at the $10,000 - $100,000 level, meeting activity metrics and revenue goals.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of 100-125 qualified major gift donors and prospects.
  • Proactively reach out to prospects to thank them for gifts, extend invitations to major gift prospecting and other events, secure meetings with major gift staff as appropriate, offer services and make internal referrals, and engage them in our work.
  • Respond to leads from internal sources (outbound call team referrals, direct marketing) with the goal of pre-qualifying prospects and securing visits.
  • Utilize prospecting strategies and networks to build the portfolio and strengthen the pipeline of major gift donors and prospects.
  • Partner with local chapter leadership to identify, cultivate and solicit new major gifts from the intermediate gift pool of donors.
  • Coordinate and organize major gift and planned gift prospecting events targeting a broad pool of major and planned gift prospects (i.e. Discovery Parlor events, research updates, etc.)
  • Prepare written materials such as visit strategies/briefings, correspondence, solicitation/proposal and pledge documents. 
  • Maintain strong and accurate records of activities, as directed by team protocol using the national database. Monitor, evaluate, and report on progress and outcomes against agreed upon goals.
  • Respond to major and planned gift leads moved to you for follow-up. Work proactively in each community to network and expand portfolio.
  • Contribute to the national major and planned gift team as the Alzheimer's Association continues to build and expand major gifts across the Association.
  • Adhere to professionalism and fundraising best practices as demonstrated by moves management industry standards and donor-centered methodology.
  • Handle other major and planned gift responsibilities as needed.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated success in personal cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and closing of major gifts at the five-figure levels.
  • 1-3 years minimum required experience in major gift fundraising, 3-5 years preferred.
  • Experience in proactively identifying and qualifying new major gift prospects to build the major gift portfolio
  • Experience in working with donors, volunteer leaders and staff leadership.
  • Excellent, persuasive, and diplomatic communicator - in person, over the phone, and in writing - with the ability to prepare proposals, briefing materials, reports, and correspondence.
  • Strong problem solving and negotiating skills.  Highly creative/innovative with abilities to persuade and motivate others.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to analyze data and information to drive strategic development of portfolio - includes the evidenced ability to research donor database and historic giving for major gifts potential.
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently on complex donor strategies.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including ability to listen, observe and interact well with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Results oriented with ability to focus on and meet deadlines and goals.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Team leader and team player with ability to work collaboratively with chapter and national staff and volunteers.
  • High integrity and professionalism, respecting the confidential nature of donor information and the Alzheimer's Association's business practices. 
  • Must be available for evening and weekend work as required, and able to travel as needed.
